Works with cross-functional partners to identify issues or opportunities to improve the workplace environment, enhance engagement, and promote health and safety of our colleagues; identifies, proposes and helps drive strategies to foster our culture and facilitates leader connection and responsiveness to drive engagement. Monitors internal and external labor and political trends and legislative developments, drives proactive change in response to developments and coordinates and participates in labor-management relations.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in overall direction of labor strategy, advising leaders on issues, labor best practices, labor trends, and labor laws. Possesses skills and experience to coordinate with representatives for the organization in all labor-management relations including NLRB proceedings, contract negotiations.
  • Develop, and often deliver, training content to Operations Leaders on proactive Labor Relations, NLRA, current CBAs, etc.
  • Stay abreast of and have comprehensive knowledge of all National Labor Relations Act guidelines and changes to guidelines.
  • Conduct due-diligence and provide labor relations advice on mergers, acquisitions, new business ventures, business consolidations and reorganizations.
  • Develop major goals and manage initiatives to support broad People and Operations objectives; work cross-functionally with other teams to achieve them.
  • Analyze Human Resources workforce analytics and other internal data, as well as external trends and insights, and recommend actions to support our pro-colleague culture and positive workplace. Develop employee engagement predictive analytic resources and tools.
  • Monitor dispute resolution, union communications, and day to day administration of collective bargaining agreements including contract interpretation, grievance handling, arbitration cases, and Unfair Labor Practices. Provide summaries, analytics and trends to Operations Management, HR and Legal.
  • Influence and support cross-functional partners and key stakeholders to continuously improve the workplace environment, enhance engagement, and promote health and safety of our colleagues; recommend and help drive strategies to impact the quality of managers and their level of empathy/colleague connection/responsiveness to colleague issues
  • Evaluate the impact of new programs on colleagues and, if changes are negative, employ appropriate change strategies.
  • Coordinate with company Legal, L.R., E.R. and Operations on CBAs, upcoming negotiations, internal and external trends, etc.
  • Study legislation, arbitration decisions, and collective bargaining contracts to assess industry trends and the impact on the company.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required
  • 15+ years in directly relevant Human Resources/Labor Relations roles with a minimum of 10 years' experience in senior roles in HR and Labor Relations. Prefer experience with contract negotiations
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Thorough understanding of labor law and its practical application
  • Colleague experience mindset, i.e. balancing the needs of the colleague with the needs of the business; moving quickly to resolve issues.
  • Deep experience working with both unionized and non-unionized workforces, analyzing data and designing proactive strategies and drafting communication, designing and conducting interventions for troubled work areas, collective bargaining/contract administration, designing tools and trainings, monitoring labor trends, working and with outside experts.
  • Ability to relate in-person and in writing to all levels of colleagues. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with ability to deliver messages that either will persuade/influence and or drive to agreement. Manage disagreements and conflicts.
  • Business/thought partner and advocate. Significant experience supporting and interfacing with Senior-level HR, Operations, Finance and Legal executives.
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects, write decks and review/tell story with data
  • 50%+ travel required
