Scope of the Position

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible and/or has influence for wide range of functions including Plant Business Partnership and Guidance, HR Strategy, Organization  Effectiveness, Employee Development, HR Policies & Procedures, HR legal compliance and Plant Culture. 

Ensures HR strategy aligns with business plans and objectives. Champions a safe work environment and demonstrates effective leadership. 

The HRM is an onsite role within a manufacturing environment. Will have supervisory responsibilities. 

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Partners with plant leadership on plan development; identifies implementations and provides recommendations.
  • Collaborates with management to identify change management and influences change.  
  • Frequent and consistent engaging floor presence required for all HR team members.
  • Develop a key understanding of each role across the plant(s).
  • Identifies organizational needs (talent assessment, team effectiveness, staffing, etc.) and develops strategies for resolving and addressing needs. Administer employee performance management process.
  • Counsel managers and leaders regarding on-the-job and formal training opportunities to develop new skills and prepare for advancement.
  • Actively participates with business leadership to support and strategize on the full cycle recruiting process, support in determining staffing needs, write and/or update job descriptions, posting positions, sourcing candidates, conduct and support the sourcing, phone screening and interviewing of salaried candidates.
  • Assesses plant organizational capabilities and identifies gaps. Helps identify development opportunities for talent within the business unit and tracks progress on development action plans. Leads and facilitates management team in HR planning, assessment, and succession plan reviews.

Employee Relations

  • Fosters positive employee relations. 
  • Tracks progress on development action plans. Leads and facilitates management team in HR planning, assessments, and plan reviews.

HR Operations

  • Recommends and proactively communicates appropriate local implementation of HR policies and initiatives. 
  • Ensures legal and regulatory compliance, including: equal employment opportunity, wage and hour, and work authorization. 
  • Fosters continuous improvement by analyzing processes, monitoring effectiveness, and identifying actions to reduce complexity and/or enhance operational performance.
  • Utilizes data to drive decisions and ensure accurate recordkeeping/data integrity is maintained. 
  • Supports plant leadership through job evaluations, wage/salary ranges and annual merit review programs, using relevant market data as needed to maintain competitiveness.  Coordinates with Corporate department as required.

Plant Culture

  • In concert with management, builds and champions a positive employee culture.
  • Champions diversity and inclusion goals, strategies and plans. 
  • Actively participates in Employee Communications.  
  • Provides high-touch HR support to the business. 
  • Oversees company and community events.

Safety and Workers Compensation

  • Champions a safe work environment and demonstrates effectual leadership. 
  • Promotes reporting of safety issues and ensures appropriate follow-up.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. 
  • 7+ years of experience in HR Generalist/HR leadership position(s) in a manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive.
  • Experience in all facets of human resources including knowledge of talent management, coaching supervisors and managers, recruitment processes, employee relations, and legal compliance requirements.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; good listening skills; a team player who demonstrates the ability to relate to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Approachable, inspires trust and confidence.  Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information.
  • Must be adept at analyzing facts and issues, identifying options, and able to decide and recommend a course of action.  Must know when to compromise and when to be assertive.
  • Independent and organized work style: Effectively manage time and prioritize work load, assume and manage multiple tasks without close supervision, adapt to change, and consistently meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services and processes.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong PC skills/aptitude. Intermediate Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).  Experience using HR systems.
