Substation Design Engineer

Responsibilities Attends project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives. Prepares engineering cost estimate and man-hour estimates and schedules. Develops top level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages. Provides guidance to junior engineers and/or designers in the development of detailed design documents. Performs calculations for studies and reports including, but not limited to, grounding & lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies. Performs quality control reviews of design calculations, and drawings. Provides short term field support during construction. Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (Civil/structural, telecom, transmission, etc.) Serves as technical advisor for the team. Properly apply client’s substation design standards. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. 8 years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm. Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook). Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Basic written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required. High level understanding of Southern California Edison’s substation design standards Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
