Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Event Setup

1. Load and unload event resources, (tables, chairs, staging, etc.), to and from trucks and equipment carts.

2. Deliver, sets up, tear down and remove event resources to and from designated locations, before and after events, according to predetermined schedules, setup instructions and diagrams.

3. Operate a Wheaton College vehicle.

4. Receive and transmit information by radio, telephone, text and email.

5. Interface with all building personnel, internal and external customers, and guests.

6. Maintain an inventory of event resources in clean and serviceable condition, notifying supervisors of needed repair or replacement.

7. Monitor condition of facilities, reporting damage and anomalous conditions to supervisors.

8. Assist in training and supervising new crew members, student and temporary staff.

9. Complete required documentation ensuring paperwork is accurate.

10. Maintain an irregular work schedule as required by shift supervisors for the servicing of scheduled events and routine assignments.

Moving

1. Deliver, set up and relocate office, residential, and academic furniture, equipment and other materials.

2. Load and unload trucks by hand, or with the use of forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or dolly.

3. Wrap cargo with blankets to prevent damage; stack and secure items in position on truck to prevent shifting and damage during shipment.

4. Operate a Wheaton College vehicle.

5. Assist in cleaning and maintaining trucks, tools, and equipment.

6. Coordinate deliveries with customers, Project Managers and Trades as required.

7. Operate a forklift.

Custodial

1. Respond to emergencies during and after regular work hours.

2. Provide on-site staffing during events, the responsibilities of which include:

•Maintaining a clean facility; policing meeting rooms, public areas and restrooms as needed.

•Cleaning hard floors, carpet, glass, stainless steel, painted surfaces, porcelain, chromed and plastic surfaces and mirrors.

•Locking and unlocking buildings and event spaces according to a predetermined schedule.

•Setting up and tearing down event resources.

•Responding to customer needs as they arise.

•Operating hydraulic loading dock lift and thrust stage.

3. Deliver custodial supplies and launders mops as needed.

4. Fill in for custodial personnel during labor shortages and perform non-routine cleaning as needed.

5. Participate in all required training.

This job description is intended to represent key areas of responsibilities; specific assignments may vary from time to time, and other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

1. High school or equivalent.

2. One to three years of experience in a custodial, event setup, moving, warehouse or related facilities position.

3. Team player committed to institutional and departmental priorities, able to collaborate effectively with others.

4. Must be reliable and hold a sense of urgency for established timelines.

5. Highly organized with the ability to multitask.

6. Ability to manage and track details effectively.

7. Self-motivated, with efficient time management skills and the ability to solve problems.

8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; the ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, customers, and other employees of the organization.

9. Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

10. Strong reasoning skills, including the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

11. Basic computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Outlook.

12. Must complete Blood Borne Pathogens training.

13. Must pass physical exam.

14. Have and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motions, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, climb, crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is also required to work outside at times for extended periods, in a variety of weather conditions.
