About the Opportunity

ATA is seeking an Assistant Director of Admissions who will join the ATA Team to execute the goals of recruitment, admissions, enrollment, special projects, and support of current ATA students. The Assistant Director of Admissions will play an important role in building brand awareness and relationships with Boston Public Schools and Boston public charter schools, as well as other community-based organizations (CBOs) that will aid in the recruitment of ATA students. The Assistant Director of Admissions will be paramount in helping the organization achieve its goal of growing the program to serve 400 students over the next ten years. As ATA expands its visibility in the educational access programming landscape in Boston, we hope that the Assistant Director of Admissions can further ATA’s marketing, communication, and recruitment strategies in the communities we serve.

About the Role

As the Assistant Director of Admissions, you will be responsible for working with the ATA team on all admissions activities, including:

Recruitment and External Communications:

Serve as a primary contact for constituents, including prospective ATA students and families, teachers, guidance counselors, and CBOs.

Conduct school visits and host information sessions across Boston in the evenings and on the weekends.

Maintain strong connections with school partners.

Direct social media strategy as it relates to admissions and recruitment.

Assist with designing recruitment resources and promotional materials.

Maintain accurate records for all constituents, including school and CBO partners, applicants, teachers/guidance counselors, and families.

Recruitment and External Communications:

Admissions Coordination

Respond to admissions inquiries from prospective families promptly.

Maintain an admissions database on Google systems.

Update contact information.

Support applicants through the online application process and follow up with families to ensure that applications are completed.

Oversee all procedures for our admissions events such as information sessions, exam administration, application assistance, and open houses.

Support management of student and parent volunteers who assist the admissions department.

Assist with all recruitment administrative tasks as needed.

Applicant Selection

Evaluate applicants during the selection process.

Provide recommended decisions on candidates and participate in selection committees.

Assist with communication strategy at every stage of the application, from inquiry through final notification and enrollment.

Assist with admissions application coordination, such as: obtaining all required materials from applicants and supplemental materials from schools, teachers, and families; exam administration; and student and family interviews.

Cultivate and maintain ongoing relationships with schools, CBOs, and admitted students and families.

Systematize the admissions process to make it even more efficient and equitable.

Oversee the admissions event calendar, including event execution and management.

Student Support

Serve as an advisor to a group of current ATA students and families throughout middle school on their path to high school and college.

Special Projects

Provide special project and administrative support during off-peak admissions season.

High School Placement

Advise students on application materials including all forms, interview scheduling, and essay materials for their high school applications.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required. Current college seniors ,recent college graduates, and early career candidates are encouraged to apply, as well as candidates with more experience.

Alumni of mission-aligned high school or college access programs are strongly encouraged to apply.

Fluency in Spanish required.

Understanding of the Boston school system is preferred.

Experience at a school and/or in the nonprofit sector is a plus.

Admissions job experience is a plus.

Experience with marketing and/or digital branding is a plus.

Availability to work some Saturdays on select weeks and some evenings from November to April.

Ability to travel throughout Boston when schools run in person.

Dynamic interpersonal communication skills to work with a broad range of constituents, including many families who speak English as a second language.

Start date: Summer 2024, but the start date can be flexible for the right

candidate.
