Division: Editorial

Position Type: Internship

Job Description: Hour Detroit magazine offers unpaid, semester-long internships year-round. Candidates must be enrolled in a university or college and receiving college credit to be eligible for the position.

Candidates should possess good organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and demonstrate strong writing skills. While scheduling is flexible, it is preferred that interns be in the office for about 16 hours per week.

The primary responsibilities of an intern include fact-checking, research, reporting, and writing. The interns will receive instruction and feedback from Hour editors to help them grow as writers and reporters and they will learn how a monthly magazine is put together.

The intern may be asked to transport items for photo shoots (gas mileage reimbursed) and do clerical tasks integral to publishing a magazine.

Requirements: The ideal candidate is a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in journalism or writing; those with relevant coursework and experience will also be considered. In addition to being organized and detail-oriented, applicants must write clearly, using proper grammar and spelling, and work calmly under deadline pressure. They should also possess a polite, professional demeanor.

Note: This is an unpaid position. Interns must receive college credit from their educational institution.

To apply: Please contact jlumaj@hour-media.com with a cover letter, resume, and two writing samples.
