Staff Accountant

Classification/Reports to

Exempt/Corporate Controller

Summary/Objective

Blackhawk Mining LLC is seeking an accountant to join the financial reporting and accounting team at its corporate headquarters in Lexington, KY. This position will be responsible for managing the monthly and quarterly accounting close process for various mining subsidiaries of the Company. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of GAAP, is able to identify and communicate relevant issues for timely and accurate resolution as well as work in a dynamic team environment. In a way, this position is the "Controller" position for subsidiaries of the Company.

Essential Functions

* Executing recurring and new journal entry requirements * Analyzing income statements and balance sheets vs historical results and vs forecasted levels and understanding variances vs actual results * Preparing financial packages to be distributed to the general manager of the subsidiaries and to the senior management team of the Company * Performing balance sheet reconciliations for the subsidiaries and executing other tasks as needed * Support the operations organization of the subsidiaries by providing financial analysis, responding to inquiries and participating in operational reviews with those organizations * Managing improvements in tools and processes used in the above processes with an emphasis on ensuring consistency between all subsidiaries * Adhering to acceptable internal controls and ensuring they are executed and documented satisfactorily.

Competencies

* Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills and problem solving skills * Self-driven, motivated and eager to learn with a passion for process improvement * Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a high-volume, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel * Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is a plus

Required Education and Experience

* BS or BA in accounting or finance * 2+ years of relevant corporate accounting experience and/or public accounting * CPA certification is preferable but not required

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

Travel

Minimal travel is expected for this position.
