ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develops project goals and objectives to complete complex or major manufacturing engineering projects by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management. Applies and leads continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing operations in critical and/or high impact areas of production. Frequent formal and informal customer interface to present program status; may propose and/or negotiate engineering, process, or material changes. Gains customer confidence in overall manufacturing support of customer programs. Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assigning staffing and resources, and reviewing bids from outside contractors. Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates. Confirms product performance and/or improved operational capacity and efficiency by designing and conducting tests. Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements. Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems. Controls project plan by reviewing design specifications, and plan or schedule changes, and recommending actions to achieve performance to committed milestones. Controls project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing trade and technical publications, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and/or participating in professional associations. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements (e.g. environmental, safety, etc.) by studying existing and new legislation, ensuring adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions. Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through eight or more years of increasingly responsible related experience. Society of Manufacturing Engineering (SME) or Mechanical Engineering (ASME) certification desired. Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and production engineering theories, principles, practices, techniques and concepts and broad knowledge of other related engineering areas and general business operations. Comprehensive knowledge of aerospace industry products and ability to lead and implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques. Thorough knowledge of process analysis review and statistical process control. Ability to apply and integrate knowledge of other related engineering areas to own areas of expertise. Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing plants. Ability to use standard business applications software and/or specialized data analysis tools. Ability to work effectively with CAD/CAM systems or other computer-aided manufacturing systems. Ability to apply drafting and related machining systems to make recommendations for improved productivity. Ability to work on complex technical problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors, solve a wide range of difficult problems in creative and effective ways, and coordinate across multiple teams.
