The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 in the South-Central Region in our Project Development Office. This position directly supports WSDOT’s mission by working with a team of engineers and other technicians on the region’s survey crew to provide data and support to the region offices, mainly design and construction, as they deliver highway projects that conform to state standards and laws.

What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will: Understand and follow Washington state land survey standards, techniques, methodologies, and statutes. Operate, troubleshoot, and inventory survey instruments and all assigned gear, tools, and vehicles. Inform Survey Supervisor when items need restocked, replaced or are missing. Operate, train, and troubleshoot assigned CAD and survey software. Understand and comply with WSDOT Computer Aided Engineering standards and survey preparations. Write reports and keep proper survey field notes and daily field reports. Research, read, interpret right of way, cadastral, property descriptions, survey recordings, maps, exhibits, and construction plans and all forms of legal conveyance. Prepare deliverables in accordance with current design and survey policy. Oversee the work and progress of survey teams from WSDOT, or consultant, or a combination of both.

Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are

required : Associate degree in civil engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Transportation Technician 3 or equivalent and FAA part 107 license. OR A bachelor’s degree in engineering or Certification as a Land Surveyor-in-Training or Certification as an Engineer-in-Training. AND One (1) year Survey Party Lead or three years Assistant Survey Party Lead with emphasis on geodetic, bathymetric, topography and roadway geometrics. Possess a valid driver license. Survey equipment skills and ability: Ability to operate a total station, bar code level, data collector and GNSS antenna, UAV, USV or any other equipment being utilized in the region to collect a variety of data. Communication Skills/Abilities: Ability to convey ideas and facts orally and in writing to team members, supervisors, and support groups using a language that the audience will best understand. Computer Skills/Abilities: Ability to use a computer and learn software used for the delivery of survey data such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MicroStation, lnRoads, and other software specific to WSDOT. Survey software such as Leica Captive, Viva, Virtual Studio. Research and Analytical Skills/Abilities: Ability to comprehend complex mathematical calculations necessary to complete the surveying; to utilize the Highway Survey Manual, Design Manual, Plans Preparation Manual, Hydraulics Manual, Standard Plans, Standard Specifications and other WSDOT manuals for delivering the survey data to design and construction offices. It is

preferred

that qualified candidates also have: Washington Professional Land Surveyor. Experience/prior exposure to design, construction, traffic, materials, program management, or other WSDOT related types of work. Experience with Bentley software products MicroStation, lnRoads or OpenRoads. Experience with Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel. Experience with Survey software OJI Terra, Pix4d Mapper, Survey and/or Matic, Leica LGO, Infinity, and Cyclone 3DR. Experience in the Private or Public Survey field as a Lead, Tech, or intern.
