PURPOSE:
The Family Center L.E.A.P. Representative provides day-to-day support for students and families of the Norwalk Public Schools community, contributing to the engagement of students, families, and the community in formal and informal settings. As part of the NPS Family Center staff, this position assists in engaging families around school attendance and continues to engage families through parent workshops, community outreach, and more.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with staff, administrators, principals, community, families, and students to gain feedback and aid when dealing with issues that arise.
  • Conduct home visits to engage families in school attendance.
  • Actively organize and participate in events and activities of the district's Central Office.
  • Must participate and be available for all NPS community events, such as festivals, community "nights out," neighborhood celebrations, and any relevant family activities which will require attendance during weekends.
  • Work closely with school, parent, and community organizations to increase family engagement.
  • Help support parents with strategies they can use to support their child's education and with strategies they can work with their student as it relates to consistent attendance.
  • Provide families with information on district resources and services as required by family needs.
  • Provide and connect parents with access to community resources.
  • Plan and execute special events such as annual districtwide choice fairs, school open houses, special events for multilingual learners, special education students, magnet programs, and other specialized services and programs
  • Communicate with schools to ensure student and family needs are met.
  • Complete L.E.A.P. home visitor training and implement a program following identified protocols.
  • Gather and analyze required data for home visits.
  • Present home visit data weekly to School, Family Center, and Central Office Staff ensuring that all decisions are data driven.
  • Exit families from the program when appropriate. Ensure a post-survey is completed and filled out by each family at the six month or year mark.
  • Attend all required L.E.A.P. meetings, District Attendence Team Meetings, and School Attendance Team Meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Deputy Superintendent.

Qualification Requirements:
  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required with three to five years' experience in community work or an area related to the duties described above.
  2. Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills
  4. Interest and ability to work effectively with school-aged youth, educators, families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  6. Bilingual (especially Spanish or Haitian Creole) required.

Salary: Per ESG Bargaining Unit
