Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck. The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers. The steel joist business in the US began as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010. The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 1000 people across the United States.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for applying principals of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principals) to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements, and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are maintained.
Essential Functions
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank reconciliations.
Prepare and input journal entries
Prepare required financial statements and special reports, monitor inputs, review reports for unusual variances, and ensure timely completion.
Reviews books of original entry, general ledgers, and other subsidiary financial ledgers.
Conduct monthly job cost reviews with project managers.
Prepare reports to local, state, and federal agencies in accordance with regulations, to include annual reports and government census.
Maintain a working relationship with outside auditors, tax consultants, and taxing authorities.
Maintain a positive work ethic and communicate in a professional manner with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Bachelors in Accounting
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
Three (3) years previous general ledger accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing industry.
Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles, economic principles, applicable laws, codes and regulations.
Knowledge of financial systems, budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis.
Effective analytical skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to multi-task in a deadline driven environment.
Ability to work independently to make decisions based on previously developed practices and procedures.
Computer skills to include: MS Excel and Word
