Research Liaison Officer 1

Supports individuals and groups within the University of Houston in all phases of the funding process in an effort to fund projects in Research Science and Education. Collaborates with other research entities and private businesses outside of the University System to coordinate, develop, fund, and implement research projects.

1. Identifies and maintains research alliances with potential collaborative partners to formulate and implement specific research projects.
2. Coordinates and assists with writing funding proposals and coordinates related activities with the appropriate university administrative department.
3. Identifies technologies with high potential for commercialization and develop strategies to transfer technologies into the industrial sector.
4. Serves on special projects at the discretion of the director.
5. Acts a liaison between the office of research and the faculty and funding agencies.
6. Coordinates visits of local, state, national, and international visitors; coordinates meetings/special events for external constituents.
7. Serves as a program and administrative manager for the funding process functions; assists in grants and contracting process.
8. Assists in developing and organizing research clusters and facilitates multiple Principle Investigator proposal development.
9. Develops marketing plans for specific technologies, including newsletters, website, and press releases and announcements.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Research Liaison Officer 2

Supports individuals and groups campus wide within the University of Houston System in research and research proposal development for funding complex, multidisciplinary proposals. Strategically collaborates with other research entities and private businesses outside of the University System to coordinate, develop, fund, and implement these projects into cohesive programmatic thrusts that can be leveraged into academic, industry, government and community partnerships.

1. Identifies strategic high dollar and high visibility funding opportunities that fit UH capabilities, research assets; leads initiatives for multidisciplinary center and training grant proposals; maintains a master list of these opportunities and tracks statistics on submission and funding-success rate.
2. Manages the College of Engineering limited submissions: announcements, competitions and processes.
3. Develop, maintain and advance the campus and system wide faculty expertise database to match funding opportunities to faculty and to build teams to address complex multidisciplinary research problems. The database is also intended to be used by faculty to identify appropriate collaborators.
4. Facilitates University driven initiatives to increase success and visibility of the institution.
5. Identify trends in sponsor research interests and advise proposal preparation accordingly.
6. Assists in the development, project management and critical review of large/complex/high visibility proposals.
7. Develops new programs and resources to assist faculty with successfully securing funding from various sponsors.
8. Develops and disseminates key information and news to the research community in collaboration with the DOR Communication Office through e-mail, publications, website, symposiums and working groups.
9. Leads and develops educational and training programs in grant proposal development for the research community including workshops, coordinating symposium and seminars, and new faculty orientation activities. Includes conducting proposal writing workshops and overseeing the Research Mentoring Faculty mentoring program to help new investigators develop grant proposals.
10. Develops and enhances multi-disciplinary strategic partnerships within and outside of UH.
11. Represents the College of Engineering by liaising with other divisions, colleges, departments, offices, and funding agencies.
12. Assists the AVC/AVP for Research with new initiatives and special projects.
13. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Research Liaison Officer 1

Masters and 3 years experience

Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a Master's Degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.

Research Liaison Officer 2

Masters and 5 years experience

Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
