What you’ll be doing
As Audit Director, Real Estate Secured Lending (RESL) Strategy Team, you will support the management of risk by providing strategic leadership to a small team of multi-skilled professionals to develop, implement and execute a comprehensive approach to auditing the Real Estate Secured Lending portfolio. You will build and maintain strong professional relationships with internal colleagues within Internal Audit and business partners across all three lines of defense. You will promote compliance with CIBC policies and procedures, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation. You will be responsible for supporting the team’s performance and development, monitoring key business risks and regulatory requirements, project management and leading various continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the Director is responsible for ensuring activities are conducted to high standards of accuracy, rigor, and credibility and according to regulations and industry standards.

How you’ll succeed
Audit effectiveness & project management
– Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to plan, track and execute activities and effectively manage multiple activities at different stages to ensure completion within required timelines. Communicate regularly on progress and issues and review work to ensure a high level of quality and compliance with audit standards.

Oversee and manage multiple initiatives/priorities/projects

Leadership without authority
– Provide trusted and proactive advice to the team and colleagues on developing and executing on the strategy to ensure key risks and regulatory requirements relevant to the portfolio are being adequately managed. Coach and develop team members to build and maintain a collaborative team environment and ensure individual development goals are met.
Communication
- Demonstrate clear, concise and influential written and verbal communication skills when issuing strategy documents, recommendations and audit memos, discussing audit findings, resolving conflicts or interacting with CIBC executives, regulators and external auditors.
Relationships
- Develop strong internal and external relationships through ongoing communication on progress of engagements and providing advice on risk, control and regulatory matters. Provide trusted and proactive advice to internal partners as they progress through their Real Estate Secured Lending audit plans.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience
of 5 to 10 years in auditing in the financial services sector with a focus on Retail Lending and the related regulatory environment in Canada.
You’re a certified professional.
Typically this knowledge is acquired through obtaining an auditing or accounting designations (e.g., CA, CPA, ACCA), a business degree (e.g., M.B.A.), in addition to business experience either in the banking and financial services world or internal / external audit assurance and consulting services.
