Position Overview: The Product Engineer – Traditional Ride Control, is responsible for the product lines of Complete Strut Assembly, Shock Absorber, and Coil Springs. Position is responsible for development ride control products for passenger, Heavy Duty, and other types of vehicles. DMA has manufacturing partners who design and product our products, the engineering position is responsible for testing competitors and OE product, setting proper specifications, and along with the Warranty & Product Validation Engineer assuring products meet these specifications. The position will prepare and maintain drawings, development records, and specifications. The position is fully accountable for working with our approved DMA factory partners to design new products, redesigning existing products, as well as overseeing the prototype delivery and testing of products that meet the development schedule, costs, and performance specifications of internal and external customers. The Vice President of Product R&D supervises this position. Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee prototype development and qualification process for new parts. Recommend approval of new product designs and optimizations that meet DMA development requirements. Conduct validation and verification activities using appropriate calculations, physical testing, design reviews, and risk assessments for form, fit, and function. Maintain current engineering drawings and specifications for assigned product lines. Participate in regular meetings with factory partners and the DMA Product team to review designs, optimizations, and quality issues. A working knowledge of all competitors and product innovations for assigned product lines in the marketplace. Working proficiency with 3D and 2D CAD systems with dimensions and tolerances. Able to use 3D scanning as a design and comparison tool. Receive and evaluate quality reports from the Warranty & Product Validation Engineer and identify product issues for improvement. Assist Warranty & Product Validation Engineer as necessary to identify and solve problems with new products and warranty issues on existing products. Assist in writing repair SOPs when required. Understand product development processes, manufacturing methods, and materials used in suspension systems. Working knowledge of dampening design, valve construction, stress calculations, force calculations, metallurgy, suspension designs, optimization processes, and cost constraints Develop a collaborative partnership with DMA sales and Product team members to ensure that all customer needs are anticipated and met. Support sales and marketing where needed for sales growth of product categories Requirements Education/Experience & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or engineering science or 5 plus years of relevant experience Proficiency in computer skills; Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Power Point Training in CAD software, DFMEA, GD&T, and APQP practices Experience in the Automotive industry preferred. Ability to operate laboratory equipment and software safely and accurately. Strong written communication skills, including report preparation. To prepare all documentation this position requires, need to be able to absorb, organize, and analyze large amounts of information and recognize key data points and what information means. Ability to communicate complex engineering topics in manner that lay person can understand Prepare reports and presentations as required Basic material science knowledge Language Skills: Ability to read and write in English. Ability to effectively articulate and present information and respond to questions from Management in a professional manner.
