SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Director of Operations position oversees the management of all areas of manufacturing to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives. This position is responsible for the effective planning, directing and coordination of all functions for the Operations Department, which includes; Production, Plant Services (Maintenance and Facilities), Sales Support, Prepress, and Planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees all aspects of the organization's manufacturing processes, including maintenance and facilities, production, shipping and receiving, supply chain and special projects.
  • Provides strategic leadership to ensure lean manufacturing and engineering support for contract manufacturing facilities.
  • Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Formulates and recommends policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Directs and monitors production managers in press, pouching, lamination, and slitting to accomplish goals of the organizational plan, consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures. Acts as liaison between department management/subordinate levels, as well as executive levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
  • Hires, trains, develops and evaluates staff. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensures compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consults with Human Resources Department at ePac Holdings as appropriate and required.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. Directs the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards.
  • Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
  • Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
  • Works with company's quality departments to ensure operations and personnel are in compliance with all pertinent regulatory bodies including AIB, SQF-2 and OSHA
  • Identifies projects related to operations, consistent with the company's goals and objectives and necessary to maintain the organization's competitiveness is the marketplace. Provides leadership to implement identified projects.
  • Provides recommendations for revisions or enhancements to schedules, resource allocation and production requirements.
  • Participates in the annual strategic planning and budgeting process to develop plans in support of business development and global corporate initiatives.
  • Reviews financial budgets for Operations Department and supporting departments.
  • Monitor and review performance of direct reports, and provide prompt and objective coaching, mentoring and counseling. Resolve performance, job satisfaction, and interpersonal issues, balancing employee and department needs.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • As part of the ePac team, this role will have responsibilities above and beyond what has been outlined. Because of the start up nature of our organization, you may be asked to support other departments that compliment your experience and skill set.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • In-depth knowledge of process manufacturing operations and packaging operations; contract manufacturing knowledge preferred.
  • Understanding of flexible packaging processes (or similar manufacturing processes), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs).
  • Ability to communicate clear, concise and professionally with clients and internal staff both verbally and in written format.
  • High level of organizational skills.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and projects with little direction and supervision.
  • Ability to multitask and assess, accept/make changes quickly to meet timelines.
  • Extensive knowledge of Google Drive
  • ERP knowledge (ePac utilizes M/S Dynamics)
  • Effective business judgment and decision making skills. Ability to travel as necessary.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related industry. A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.
  • Flexible Packaging experience a plus, but not required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
