This position will work within the molecular department which offers molecular pathology laboratory testing which is diagnostic testing in infectious disease and pharmacogenetics (PGx) utilizing RT-PCR (commercial and in-house developed assays).

**Lab Assistant Essential Job Functions**:
Under the supervision and direction of a _Molecular Technologist_, the Laboratory Assistant may perform the following duties:

- Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens
- Prepares batching of samples according to laboratory information system (LIS) pending samples
- Extract samples using automated equipment
- Assists the laboratory staff in notifying clients of critical values according to the laboratory’s policy for notifying and documenting critical values
- Disposes of specimens according to laboratory specimen retention policy
- Adheres to all laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs
- Monitors the laboratory information system (LIS) backlogs at least twice/day
- Other job-related duties as assigned by management

**Lab Assistant Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**:

- Associate of Science Degree or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures is preferable.
- Ability to work the computer system, analyzer machines, and telephones
