- Frequent travel to target sites in Northern Arizona is required.

Reporting to the Director for Access Program, the Assistant Director has overall responsibility for the activities, programs, budget and operations of the TRIO Talent Search (TS), TRIO Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC), and Nizhoni Academy (NZ) programs.

The Assistant Director must be a collaborative leader, responsible for directing the staff in the development and delivery of programs and services designed specifically to achieve grant objectives and needs of TS/NZ/EOC service areas and participants.

Administration - 50%
- Plans, develops, implements, evaluates, and adapts all aspects of TS/NZ/EOC programs to ensure compliance with grant specifications, goals, and objectives.
- Ensures TS/NZ/EOC programs are administered in accordance with all pertinent state and federal guidelines, regulations, mandates, policies and procedures.
- Administers and manages federal program budget, monthly budget, and participant reports.
- Responsible for staff proficiency with organization and data management system for program evaluation and participant tracking.
- Responsible for writing TS/NZ/EOC grants, annual performance reports, annual budget proposals and other required reports to USDOE or other.
- Gathers statistics for grant writing, annual performance reports, and monthly progress summaries in support of TS/NZ/EOC programs.
- Provides statistical and narrative monthly reports to Access Director on program efforts.

Supervision - 35%
- Supervises TS & EOC Program Managers, as well as Administrative Services Assistant.
- Establishes operating procedures for TS/NZ/EOC program. Ensure procedures meet program goals.
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, evaluation, and accountability processes of TS/NZ/EOC professional staff. Serves as backup in the event that student workers and/or NZ summer staff supervisor are not available.
- Manage and track key tasks & workloads across the program to ensure that they are assigned correctly, and the work is distributed evenly.
- Provide program content expertise, including delivering in-serve training and direct programming.
- Facilitates monthly meetings to advise direct reports in relation to risk management, budget management, institutional changes, and departmental updates.

Outreach - 10%
- Establishes cooperative agreements with colleges, high schools, government, and community agencies to facilitate participant recruitment, program maintenance and expansion.
- Oversees program online calendar, website, and social media sites in order to inform public of program events, engagement opportunities, etc.
- Establishes cooperative agreements with various NAU departments, institutional partners, and community agencies to facilitate program maintenance, expansion, and participant success.
- Represents the work unit on various committees, work groups and employee forums.
- Oversees creation and production of informational materials related to programs and services to ensure compliance with grant and university stipulations.

Other - 5%
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, Education, Counseling or related area.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- 2-4 years of management or supervisory experience.
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Master’s Degree or higher in Counseling, Education, or Social Sciences field.
- Experience supervising paraprofessional, graduate, or professional staff.
- Knowledge of tribal and federal financial aid.
- Knowledge of TRIO programs.
- Experience working with low-income, first-generation, and under-represented students.

**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**

Knowledge
- Knowledge of higher education law, including FERPA, Title IX, HIPAA, etc.
- Knowledge of federal and tribal financial aid.
- Knowledge of supervisor practices and principles.

**Skills**:

- Experience developing, managing, and assessing student service programs.
