The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

**Title of Position**:
OPS Human Services Program Specialist

**Your Specific Responsibilities**:
The incumbent in this position is a client services navigator and will serve in the Community Health Client Services Department at the Department of Health in Hillsborough. The navigator specializes in one-on-one community resource linkage assistance to clients. Navigators stay abreast of community partner and program resources to be able to interpret programs and eligibility requirements for clients. The majority of client navigation services are conducted telephonically or electronically, not in person.

**Duties Include**:

- Recruit clients for screening participation, conduct client needs assessments and identify possible community resources for clients
- Link clients to community resources and conduct scheduled follow ups
- Assist clients with obtaining assistance from community resources, as time allows
- Work with staff and community organizations to promote and support the program
- Accurately document program activities and store records through established processes in a timely manner
- Stay up to date on issues affecting the program
- Participate in the partner Community of Practice
- Follow tasks through from start to finish
- Contribute to quality improvement activities, group projects, and program growth
- Interact with or request client translation services
- Complete other related duties as assigned, including timesheets, mandatory trainings, meetings, and travel reimbursement

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Excellent verbal and written English language skills
- Emotional maturity and intelligence
- Ability to problem-solve in sensitive situations
- Ability to relate to clients in a culturally sensitive manner
- Ability to produce accurate data records and to summarize results in report form
- Proficiency and comfort with using various technology products including Microsoft Suite, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Teams
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality and effective working relationships with others

**Qualifications**:
**_Minimum_**
- 1-year experience conducting client needs assessments, face-to-face counseling, in-take, triage, patient research or other similar experience
- 1-year experience collecting, storing, or presenting sensitive data

**_Preferred_**
- Ability to speak Spanish helpful but not required
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or related field preferred
- 1-year experience in public health, social work, sociology, anthropology, human services, or in a related field or task preferred
