The Planning & Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. A host of advisory and governing bodies of residents as well as elected officials provide oversight as the city grows and needs arise. The process is governed through development and enforcement of city codes and ordinances. Planning and Development is looking to fill two Fire Prevention Specialist II vacancies for the Inspection section.

The Fire Prevention Specialist II for PDD performs advanced technical fire prevention, complex plan review, and inspection work that is of a diversified and complex nature.

Duties of this role include:

- Performing advanced technical fire prevention, complex plan review, and inspection work that is of a diversified and complex nature.
- Responsible for making decision requiring discretion, judgment, and familiarity with laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
- Providing analysis and approval of plans, specifications, and construction documents for buildings, processes, operations, and fire protection systems and equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. Compliance is ordered when violations are discovered.
- Reviewing, analyzing, and inspecting various underground Fire Lines, Sprinkler Installation, Fire Access, Kitchen Hoods, Spray Booths and Fire Alarm drawings for compliance with International Code Council (ICC) Fire and Building Code Compliance.
- Providing technical advice of moderate complexity to City staff, private developers, and the public.

**Opportunity to underfill at the Fire Prevention Specialist I level and Fire Prevention Trainee Specialist.**

The Fire Prevention Specialist I and Fire Prevention Trainee Specialist inspect properties for conformance with federal, state, county, and locally recognized laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards. They are responsible for performing technical fire prevention, plan review, and inspection work of a diversified nature. Fire Prevention Specialists I are responsible for decisions requiring discretion, judgment, and familiarity with laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Fire Prevention Supervisor or Fire Protection Engineer.

**IDEAL CANDIDATE**:

- Knowledge of the City of Phoenix Fire Code, Building Code, ICC Fire code, ordinances, laws, regulations, and standards.
- Knowledge of mathematical principles required to perform Fire related technical calculations.
- Knowledge of Fire prevention practices.
- Ability to understand and interpret Graphix instructions, such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Word, Excel & Power Point and Teams.

**SALARY**:
**Fire Prevention Specialist II**

Pay Range: $24.93 to $44.77 per hour.

Hiring Range: $24.93 to $33.41 per hour.

**Fire Prevention Specialist I**

Pay Range: $23.74 to $38.68 per hour.

Hiring Range: $23.74 to $27.49 per hour.

**Fire Prevention Specialist Trainee**

Pay Range: $20.51 to $30.31 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.51 to $23.74 per hour.
