**General Summary**:
As a member of the Bayhealth Public Safety team this incumbent is responsible for ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all Bayhealth Properties and individuals there within. Performance includes demonstration of the following competencies: demonstrates ownership, creates improvement and innovation, creates a work environment marked by pride/joy, builds bridges/collaborates, shows adaptability, shows integrity, and demonstrates trust. Reporting to a Public Safety Supervisor the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a secure environment for employees, patients and visitors at Bayhealth by providing service of the highest quality, which optimizes our patient’s healthcare experience. This position may require long periods of walking, standing, or sitting. The Security Officer may be required to man the Public Safety Control Desk at times.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
3. Patrols medical center buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Secures and unlocks facilities.
4. Monitors conduct of visitors on medical center premises confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
5. Responses to, intervenes in, and documents safety and security incidents.
6. ) Escorts personnel to parking lots and medical center buildings. Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from medical center personnel, students, and visitors.
7. Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.
8. Respond to all calls assigned and intervene appropriately. This may include acts of disorderly conduct or violence. Will be required to administer patient restraints when authorization is provided by an approved medical practitioner.
9. Maintain records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
10. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
11. Provides services consistent with the organization’s philosophy of delivering compassionate, competent care while assuming personal responsibility promoting wellness, respecting diversity and maintaining confidentiality.
12. Must be able to work all shifts and during times of emergency be able to respond to Bayhealth when called. Overtime may be required when necessary to ensure minimum staffing levels.
13. Must be able to successfully complete all required departmental training programs within required time frames. Training includes but is not limited to: Handcuffing Certification, Oleoresin Capsicum Certification, NAPPI De-Escalation Training, and IAHSS Certifications.
14. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

**Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience**:

- Education: High School Diploma or GED

- Credential(s): Driver License
Driving Record Required.
Basic Life Support -Within 90 days, if not already obtained.
CHSO-Basic within 6 months of hire if not already obtained

- Experience: Preferred: 1 year experience in law enforcement or security is desirable. Hospital experience is desirable.
