Washington, United States CTR BUDGET POLICY Full time

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a nonpartisan research and policy institute that advances federal and state policies to help build a nation where everyone — regardless of income, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ZIP code, immigration status, or disability status — has the resources they need to thrive and share in the nation’s prosperity.

CBPP combines rigorous research and analysis, strategic communications, and effective advocacy to shape debates, affect policy, and inform effective implementation both nationally and in states. It works closely with a broad set of national, state, and community organizations to design and advance policies that promote economic justice; improve health; broaden opportunity in areas like housing, health care, employment, and education; and lower structural barriers for people of color and others in communities that continue to face systemic barriers to opportunity. CBPP promotes policies that will build a more equitable nation and fair tax policies that can support these gains over the long term. CBPP also shows the harmful impacts of policies and proposals that would deepen poverty, widen disparities, and worsen health outcomes.
- Most recently, CBPP has transformed how equity and inclusion (E&I) show up within its organizational culture, operations, and external-facing policy and advocacy work. This transformation has included enhanced practices and protocols for achieving greater staff diversity, addressing microaggressions, and fostering inclusion and belonging. We’ve also expanded our training and trust-building initiatives, our identity-based affinity group program, and our E&I Advisory Council, and we’ve defined our E&I vision and values — all to facilitate team-level E&I learning and priority-setting.The Deputy Director for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging will lead efforts to build, manage, and assess a robust E&I training and professional development program at CBPP. Specifically, the Deputy Director will collaborate with the Chief Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Officer; the E&I Core Team; the E&I Advisory Council (EIAC); and HR/People and Culture to create a training and capacity-building program that supports CBPP staff and leadership in building the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to infuse E&I into their professional practice. The Deputy Director will identify pre-existing E&I training programs and/or create curricula focused on developing skills that foster equity, inclusion, and belonging.

The Deputy Director will also lead E&I program assessment efforts, working with internal and external stakeholders to collect data and evaluate opportunities to further CBPP’s equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives. They will work with the Chief Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Officer to address equity-related concerns that arise within the organization while also supporting a broader, long-term equity agenda.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead efforts to create, manage, and assess a robust E&I training and professional development program, which includes opportunities for individual, team, and organization-wide learning in addition to trainings for CBPP leaders and other specific groups.
- Support CBPP teams with the planning and execution of their E&I learning goals and initiatives.
- Identify and develop E&I resources that assist staff in moving from theory to practice, with a focus on skill-building.
- Assist the Chief Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Officer in developing, operationalizing, evaluating, and refining E&I principles, goals, priorities, and work plans for building a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization.
- Lead and coordinate E&I climate assessment and evaluation initiatives in collaboration with the E&I Core Team and other internal stakeholders.
- Develop benchmarking metrics and conduct research on theoretical and practical equity-centered policy approaches, theories, best practices, and frameworks.
- Develop key benchmarks and metrics for progress, ongoing assessment, reporting mechanisms, and other accountability measures to ensure that E&I concepts are incorporated across CBPP.
- Co-manage the Equity and Inclusion Advisory Council (EIAC) alongside the Chief Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Officer, including facilitating sessions and setting priorities.
- Co-manage cross-organizational consultants supporting CBPP’s E&I priorities and initiatives.
- Represent CBPP in internal and external workgroups and partnerships to support and share ongoing E&I work.
- Assist in the drafting and editing of reports and presentations on CBPP’s E&I journey.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least seven years of experience working in diversity, equity, and inclusion or related positions, preferably within a nonprofit, educational, or similar environment.
- Experience participating in, coordinating, or managing organizational climate asse
