**Job Description**:
Student Access Services is looking for a graduate teaching assistant who will help support the function and work under the direct supervision of a faculty or staff mentor. Assists the Department of Student Access Services (SAS) in serving members of the Marymount community including researching accessibility-related topics, meeting with students to co-strategize their academic progress, proctoring student exams, and assisting SAS staff with student case file management. All GTA - Academic Coaches should attend GTA training prior to starting their position.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Assist SAS staff with student case file management.
- Assist SAS staff with creating and administering student accommodation letters (Faculty Contact Sheets)
- Research outside resources/products which increase student accessibility.
- Meet with students to co-strategize their academic progress by providing educational coaching that may include: Learning awareness/metacognition and stress management techniques related to learning and self-advocacy.

OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS
- GA will be expected to meet with selected students registered with Student Access Services to document those meetings in a case management format to:

- Assist with their transition into and their academic performance at Marymount
- Identify and develop a plan to manage their academic concerns regarding completing and submitting assignments
- Advise on their organizational skills regarding their academic activities
- Advise them on using appropriate University resources (e.g. tutoring, counseling center etc.)
- Advise them on developing skills for self-monitoring and self-advocacy
- Document meetings with students in a case-management style format
- GA will assist SAS staff with administrative duties which will be to:

- Maintain and organize student case files containing disability documentation
- Locate and/or identify resources to develop alternative formatted texts, sign language interpreting reservations and other auxiliary services
- Develop or update resource lists, SAS announcements, disability awareness, and event information
- Proctor exams for SAS Students approved for testing accommodations
- GA will be expected to research topics that may include:

- Disorders and impairments as defined from both legal and clinical perspectives
- Current disability law, beset practices, legal trends, and legal precedents, particularly as they relate to higher education
- Available in-house and local external resources and services which can be used by students with disabilities
- Comparative analysis of accessibility models and practices used in other US and international institutions
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time graduate student (6 credits per semester) at Marymount University
- MS Office Knowledge
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Strong skills in research, writing, and interpersonal communication
- Initiative and ability to work independently
