Water Distribution Operator I

**Purpose**:
**Accountabilities**:

- Conduct thorough analysis and make informed decisions on job details and emergencies
- Maintain and account for tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles
- Complete daily job safety inspection sheets and accurately read meters
- Perform leak repairs, mains maintenance, fire hydrant management, new service installations, meter changes, and service repairs
- Keep the direct Supervisor informed of field customer service issues and needs
- Operate hand and power tools, as well as mechanical equipment, during various tasks such as installing, operating, and repairing mains, services, meters, valves, and fire hydrants
- Assist in shutdowns, repairs, disinfection, and restoration of water service to customers
- Oversee and direct contractors as needed
- Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership

**Education and Experience**:

- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience and knowledge of basic construction, maintenance methods, meter reading, and/or procedures in a water utility
- Possess or obtain a Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate within 18 months, issued by the SWRCB DDW, Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator Certificate desired
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record. Class A driver’s license required
- Proficient in the use of the (C.I.S.) Customer Information System Program
- Basic computer skills, including PC Windows operations knowledge, and experience with communication devices
- Ability to work independently and responsibly with mínimal supervision and function in a team environment
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with internal and external customers
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- CPR and First Aid training
