Purpose

ESL is a leader in the development of advanced signal processing and analysis techniques of sonar data, and works directly with US Navy personnel to provide mission critical tools. ESL analysts explore fundamental questions related to characterization of phenomenology that govern underwater acoustics, identification of novel mathematical and computational signal processing algorithms, and M&S of sonar array performance in complex environments.

**Responsibilities**:
- Implement research grade signal processing tools including array processing techniques and acoustic analysis tools.- Process and/or analyze acoustic data, array data, propagation data. Develop processing algorithms and assess their performance. Interpret results.- Generate new or modify existing software. Propose and implement strategies for optimizing computational resources and selecting new hardware.- Preparation and review of analysis presentations and reports. Presentation of analysis results at internal and external working group meetings (includes travel).- Support collaborative research efforts with other team members. Develop analysis plans. Assist in proposing and pursuing new work.- Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Math or related discipline.- Experience or coursework with MATLAB, Python or similar languages.- Experience working in Windows environments.- Experience summarizing analysis results in technical reports, PowerPoint, and presenting research results.- Interest in signal processing algorithm design and development.- Interest in acoustic data processing and analysis, and sonar system design and evaluation.- The position requires attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, good communication skills, and the ability to use time effectively in order to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications- Master’s degree in Engineering, Acoustics, Physics, Applied Math or related discipline.- Three or more years of work experience in signal processing algorithm design and development.- Current or recent eligibility for access to classified information.- Experience performing signal processing techniques, physics-based modeling and simulation, and analysis with scientific computing languages and tools.- Background/experience in acoustic propagation modeling or sonar system analysis.- Experience in shell scripting, C, C++ and/or JAVA.- Experience working in Linux environments.- Demonstrated ability in code development, testing, version control, and documentation.- Experience developing software tools and signal processing algorithms.- Proven ability to work independently, formulate research plans, and take initiative.- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with a GPA of 3.2 in relevant coursework.

Salary Range
