The Fisheries Section works to enhance and protect Delaware’s fish and aquatic resources in support of recreational and commercial fishing. It provides first-class fishing and boating access to Delaware’s many waterways.

**Summary Statement**:
As lead on the Artificial Reef and Structure-Oriented Fish Assemblages projects, this position is responsible for acquiring and deploying reef materials on Delaware’s extensive artificial reefs, updating reef maps and conducting surveys of the fish communities of the reefs. This position will also prepare research grants, design surveys, write scientific reports, implement management recommendations, and represent the State on technical committees and working groups. This position directs the activities of other staff. This position will be working around boats and water.

Upon satisfactory completion of department promotional standards and job requirements, employees may be eligible to be promoted to the next level.
**Preferred Qualification**:
Applicants who do not possess the preferred qualification will still be eligible to compete for this position if job requirements are met.
- Six months experience in operating, maintaining and working on boats in open water.
**Essential Functions**:
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.
- Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
- Performs statistical analysis of data.
- Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
- Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
**Job Requirements**:
**JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III***
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
- Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
- Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
- Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
- Six months experience in technical report writing.
