**Position Overview**:
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking a Program Coordinator for the McNair Scholars Program. This position reports to the Director of the Ronald McNair Program, and assists in developing and implementing services to foster interest in graduate education among undergraduate students from historically excluded populations. Additional functions include assisting the program's leadership in the establishment of program policy, tracking the progress of participants, serving as a program representative at UMBC and externally as appropriate, coordinating the selection process of eligible program participants, facilitating participant workshops/seminars and performing other related duties as assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
Specific responsibilities include:

- Provides holistic advising to ensure persistence to degree, graduation in a timely manner and entry into graduate school immediately following undergraduate study.
- Assists with the development and implementation of seminars and workshops on topics relating to successful matriculation of disadvantaged undergraduate students into graduate programs.
- Co-supervise the program’s student staff and the Graduate Coordinator.
- Provides students with current resources that will enhance academic and professional goals.
- Monitors student academic progress and coordinates student support interventions.
- Identifies, cultivates and manages the logistics of research opportunities for participants as defined by each program (domestic and international).
- Works with university units such as Advising, Financial Aid, Transfer and Academic Affairs to develop and coordinate programs and services for underrepresented students.
- Assist with developing, preparing and submitting regular reports and maintaining the participant database.
- Participates in local, state, regional and national conferences.
- Support planning of the annual UMBC McNair Conference.
- Develops, coordinates and implements campus-wide activities and programs to promote the program to enhance recruitment efforts.
- Serves on university committees as required.
- Functions as a liaison between faculty mentors and the department by coordinating mentor recruitment efforts and addressing mentor/intern research-related needs and requests.
- Develops and implements the evaluation of the internship experiences.

**Required Minimum Qualifications**:
Requires a Master's degree in Teaching, Counseling, Education or a related field and at least one year of experience in the following:

- Collaborating with departments within higher education institutions to increase student diversity
- Providing academic counseling and advice to undergraduate students
- Coordinating multi-faceted projects
- Organizing and implementing research projects

**Preferred Qualifications**:
At least one year of experience in the following:

- Experience in collegiate teaching or working with federal TRIO programs, academic support programs, or similar programs
serving underrepresented and historically excluded college student populations.
- Knowledge in effective student “coaching” methods, including goal setting, advocacy and time management.
- Knowledge of barriers and challenges to postsecondary education faced by underrepresented college students.
