**Job Overview**:
The Director of Family Life ministry's purpose is to develop and provide ministry leadership across the human lifespan as it relates to family life. The Director is to fosters ministry programs through building relationships with teachers, students, families, and church leaders. The goal is strengthening the family’s commitment to the church and growth in faith in Jesus Christ. It includes nurturing families in an inclusive and welcoming space for growth and development.

The Director of Family Life ministry plays a major role in the faith development of all ages. SDUMC seeks a person who has a solid understanding of the Christian faith, inclusion, and who has a strong desire to nurture families in the Christian faith. The person will be familiar with or willing to learn the United Methodist Church doctrine/discipline. We seek a person who generates new ideas and programs, who also values the team concept of ministry, and works alongside the congregation’s committees and leadership team.

Also, the director is to give leadership to digital outreach of the congregation, which includes web-design, social media, podcasts, and multi-media communication.
- A seminary degree preferred or the equivalent in ministry experience.
- At one to three years of family ministry experience.
- Spiritual maturity, high moral and ethical conduct.
- A sense of call and a passion for working with families.
- A collaborative leader and team member who can inspire families in their faith.
- Good organizational, teaching, administration, and computer/technology skills.
- An understanding of lifespan development and spiritual growth.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A growing and vital relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Ability to recruit, train, organize and motivate volunteers for children’s and youth ministries.
- Desire to encourage multi-generational fellowship.
- Shares the vision, philosophy of ministry, and commitments of SDUMC.
- Knowledge and abilities in web-design preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge and skills in social media, and some experience with podcasting and video production a plus.

The Director of Family Life position can be between a part-time and full-time position that requires flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends. The actual numbers of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year. Expectation is that the Director will work on Sundays well as other specific times as agreed upon by the Lead Pastor and committee.

**Responsibilities**:
Family Ministry (50%)

1. Implement and coordinate ministry programs with families using Safe Sanctuary principles and guidelines.

2. Give leadership to weekly activates for family ministry (youth and children’s ministry).

3. Coordinate, promote, communicate, implement, and develop a quality Christian educational ministry

for families to include Sunday School, VBS and seasonal/special events, confirmation classes, and mission activities.

4. Coordinate and recruit adult volunteers to serve in children and youth ministry including nursery staff.

5. Develop a family ministry council/leadership team.

6. Provide spiritual growth and social development of families as they engaged in the life of the church.

7. Participate in the preparation and development of the budget for the Children and Youth Ministry with the Councils, Pastor, and Finance Committee. Coordinate regular expenses with the Church Treasurer.

8. Communicate and publish all activities through newsletters, bulletins, and church calendar and social media as needed. Coordinate these with the Church administrator.

9. Participate with other Christian ministry professionals in the community in District and Conference opportunities as they arise that fit within the church’s purpose and ministry vision.

Digital Outreach (25%)

1. Give oversight to SDUMC social media sites to publish church events and activities.

2. Give oversight to the SDUMC website, church branding and pod-casts which includes regular updating to reflect the current events and activates of the church.

3. Include video editing of sermons and files to post on the social media and the SDUMC website.

4. Monitoring of SDUMC’s social media for comments and questions.

5. Provide podcasts and videos as weekly announcements.

Ministry Duties (25%)

1. Assist the Lead Pastor in pastoral visitation and calling.

2. Assist the Pastor of Community Engagement in the development of an alternative worship service.

3. Provide spiritual and pastoral care to families.
- Keep the church office and the Lead Pastor informed as to how they may be contacted.
- Notify the Family Life committee chair, Assistant(s), Pastors, Church Administrator, and SPRC Liaison

prior to any unforeseen absence from regularly scheduled hours, events, or duties, and
