**The Role**
- Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.Familiarity with A4W Propulsion Plants including development, revision and maintenance of modification drawings, inspection drawings, machinery arrangement drawings, engineering studies, and Steam Plant Manual, various technical manuals, and technical letter writing is a plus. Applicant should demonstrate a desire to collaborate with both internal and external customers achieved through strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.- May require short‐duration work away from NNS in such areas as San Diego, CA, Bremerton, WA, Yokosuka, Japan, or other areas of ship operations.**Must Have**
- Associate's Degree and 1 years of relevant experience- One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

**Nice to Have**
- Experience with A4W Propulsion Plant Design and NAVSEA 9210.4C Instructions is preferred.
- Competency in NNS CAD equipment/tools, including, but not limited to AutoCAD, AutoCAD Inventor ﴾3D modeling﴿, or other CAD programs is required. Software skill requirements also include Microsoft Office suite programs, SharePoint, and other web‐based design tools.
- Experience with ship checking and utilization of reality capture, 3D modeling, and experience with advanced design technology and innovation projects is desired. May require the ability to physically access a wide variety of working sites, including those aboard commissioned ships, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.
- Ability to maintain a security clearance and may require ability to obtain and retain full or partial radiation worker qualifications.
- Previous deck plate experience in and a working knowledge of CVN68 Class propulsion plants is preferred.
