Overview:
The **SDSU** **Brain Development Imaging Laboratories** (**BDIL**; bdil.sdsu.edu) is an innovative clinical research collaborative co-directed by Drs. Ruth Carper and Inna Fishman. The BDIL is funded by the National Institutes of Health and other agencies to identify neurobiological (brain-based) and behavioral markers of autism spectrum and other related developmental disorders. We implement state-of-the-art multi-modal brain imaging techniques (anatomical, functional, and diffusion MRI) and developmental, diagnostic, and neuropsychological assessments to understand how ASD manifests across the lifespan, from the 1st years of life through mid
- and late adulthood. We work collaboratively with the **SDSU Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders** (**CADD**; autism.sdsu.edu), an interdisciplinary group of clinical scientists and autism researchers from several SDSU departments and colleges, including BDIL.

Under** supervision** of the Principal Investigator (Dr. R. Joanne Jao Keehn) the incumbent schedules research appointments; gathers, compiles, and organizes research data; monitors data quality, develops tabulation and coding procedures; creates and manages databases, and conducts general administrative tasks.

This is an intermediate-level position for incumbents who have hands on experience working in a research setting or have previous experience working as a Research Assistant.

**Responsibilities**:
**Recruitment, Screening and scheduling of research participants (30%)**
- Interact with children participating in research studies and their families
- Recruit potential participants for study eligibility
- Schedule and track research participation visits (e.g., clinical appointments, MRI sessions)
- Regularly communicate with Principal Investigator, clinicians, project staff, and graduate students

**Assistance with data collection and oversight (30%)**
- Assist and/or conduct behavioral assessments and/or MRI scanning
- Assist with development and trouble-shooting of REDCap databases
- Conduct data entry, cleaning, processing, accuracy checks, and basic data analyses.
- Monitor data entry and quality through various data capture databases
- Study sites may include SDSU, UC San Diego, and Rady Children’s Hospital

**Administrative support (30%)**
- Overall research coordination and administrative support functions including oversight of undergraduate research assistants
- Assist with management of IRB protocol
- Prepare and submit required reports to funding agencies

**Professional development (10%)**
- Assist with preparation of poster and paper presentations for scientific research conferences

Qualifications:
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:

- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year university
- Two years of experience in technical research or statistical work experience

**Preferred Requirements**
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, biology or related
- Completion of sufficient upper division coursework to successfully perform the required duties of the position **-OR-**:

- Equivalent of two years full time progressively responsible related experience
- Previous experience in a research or clinical setting
- Experience working with individuals with autism (adults and/or children) or other clinical
- Experience with data entry/organization in large
- Experience with database software (e.g. Redcap, Access, FileMaker).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekends to accommodate data collection and outreach events.

**Knowledge and Abilities**
- Understanding of scientific method and general statistics (e.g. successful completion of undergraduate coursework)
- Ability to understand and follow rules, procedures, and appropriate standards for research with human participants
- Ability to interact effectively with co-workers and study participants
- Sensitivity to the needs and challenges of children/adults with autism, attention deficit, anxiety, or mental health disorders
- Ability to meet deadlines, display detail orientation
- Ability to demonstrate cross-cultural sensitivity
