Fish and Wildlife Technician

**This position is a 12 month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.**
If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.
- During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.

Working Conditions
- Must be willing to work atypical hours and on weekends.
- Some overnight travel may be required.
- Must be able to swim, walk through deep mud and thick vegetation, deal with mosquitoes, ticks, and other stinging/biting insects, rattlesnakes and other wildlife, and work on steep or uneven terrain, in extreme weather, and under physically challenging conditions.
- The primary geographical focus of this position will be in San Joaquin, Sacramento, Contra Costa, Solano, Alameda, and Calaveras counties, but work may be assigned in any part of the area of nutria infestation.
- This is a full-time, limited-term position. Based on performance, the term may be extended to twenty-four (24) months.

- Special Requirements
- Must be able to swim at least 50 yards and stay afloat at least five minutes; be in good physical condition
- Must be willing and able to competently use pellet pistols or firearms as per the Department’s Policy for Non-Enforcement Personnel.
- Must be willing to handle live animals and carcasses, dispatch animals, and conduct simple tissue sampling and necropsies.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to safely and effectively operate watercraft and UTVs, as well as tow trailers.
- Must be willing and able to obtain a California Boater Card and other motorboat operator certifications as determined necessary.
- Must wear a Department uniform.
