**WHAT WE DO**:
Under general direction of assigned supervisor, performs paraprofessional reference work. Works evening and weekend shifts as required. May work at a branch library with mínimal supervision. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this classification but may act as lead worker for temporarily assigned employees, or special projects.

The Library Technician position is an Individual Contributor role that provides information and connection to resources. Their role enables library patrons and staff to locate the information they seek simply and accurately to build knowledge for a better life.

**DUTIES**:
These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization.

This position:

- Recommends books and other media purchases; may maintain special collection in field of expertise.
- Maintains local history and government document collections; assists with the interlibrary loan process, collects statistics, and creates and maintains in-house files.
- Acts as liaison with local community groups, designs public relations material; publicizes services in local media; assist in planning programs and special events; etc.
- Solicits, screens, and trains volunteers.
- May conduct classes and workshops for the general public and local libraries, and/or aid in various presentations, such as story times, book talks, and class tours/visits.
- Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the department director.
- Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Ideally, twelve months of experience in paraprofessional library work; and
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree is required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Specialized training in a field which has value in adult or youth services is desired.
- Current technical/professional knowledge of complex principles, methods, standards and techniques associated with the scope of work of a recognized profession, such as:

- Basic library operations, including Dewey Decimal System and key library resources.
- Familiarity with standard library resources and methods to evaluate the accuracy and authoritativeness of information, computer-based library services and computer operations.
- Classic authors and literature.
- Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent).
- Use computer and other office equipment effectively.
- Desired licenses and/or certifications associated with the assignment.
