**Job Overview**
- As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you will assist in the Loan process by underwriting a high volume of excellent quality consumer and home equity loans to achieve a profitable return and to be accountable for exercising prudence, skill, and judgement in the extension for credit to members in accordance with BHCCU’s policies/procedures and in compliance with pertinent regulatory requirements.

**Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities**
- Provides friendly, helpful service that promotes financial discipline through:

- Maintaining knowledge of BHCCU products and processes.
- Exercising judgement and assuming responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results that have a direct impact on people, costs and/or quality of member service.
- Makes underwriting decisions for each loan to include approval, decline, withdrawn or counter-offer within credit policy guidelines within individual loan authority.
- Decisions each loan within the regulatory timing guidelines and obtains loan approval from appropriate next level manager established lending limits.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of position related policies, procedures, rules, and regulations for the lending department.
- Sort and verify all indirect loan packets for accuracy and prepare for funding. Create the ACH file, adverse action letters, and fund indirect loans.
- Review and update notes for: Letter reports, trusts and other legal documents.
- Build and maintain lines of communication between a member advisors, mortgage loan officers, and quality control.
- Review and verify personal and business taxes, W2’s, paystubs etc.
- Complies with all banking industry regulations to include Fair Lending, Fair Credit, Reg. Z and Reg B.
- CIP (Customer Identification Program)
- CDD (Customer Due Diligence)
- Prohibited Account Types
- SARs (Suspicious Activity Report)
- OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control)

**QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES**

**EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the consumer lending field
- 2 years’ experience in consumer lending or related field
- Must meet standard for financial institution bonding.

**COMPETENCIES**
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Pass the pre-employment screening and background check.

**Physical Job Requirements**
- Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

- Ability to accomplish the described responsibilities using computers and technology.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in a changing, challenging, and fast paced work environment.

**Environmental Job Requirements**
- Typically located in a comfortable, quiet indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, strong drafts, or bright lights.
