**Job Summary**:
The Teaching Assistant for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides support for Thomas Metcalf School and/or University High School staff working with students that have hearing loss.

**Salary Rate / Pay Rate**:
$15.18 - $19.73 per hour

**Required Qualifications**:

- Possession of a valid Paraprofessional Educator’s License with Stipulations Endorsement as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Skill in signing and/or interpreting and ability to model appropriate use of language and speech when communicating.
- Past experience working with students with hearing loss.
- Knowledge of listening, language, and speech development.
- Experience working with equipment to facilitate hearing.
- Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule.
- Ability to transition quickly between classrooms throughout the building in a timely manner.

**Work Hours**:
7:30am-3:30pm Monday through Friday

**Functional Expectations**:
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform occasional lifting of 50-150 pounds.
- Must have good reflexes.
- Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.

August 2024
