Job Summary

The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Train and coordinate the work performance of student employees and Culinary Assistants in the areas of guest relations, dining room service, and line service.
  • Manage the point of sales procedures.
  • Supervise and assist in the serving of food.
  • Assist in food preparation when needed.
  • Prepare and distribute appropriate reports.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of work experience in the serving of food (such as a waiter/waitress).
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce all policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to sanitation and safety.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; cooperative, flexible, and customer-oriented.
  • Knowledge of food service methods and equipment; skill in properly serving and interacting with the general public.
  • Computer skills, including menu management systems; accurate record keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of point of sale systems/cash register operation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Full knowledge and acceptance of principles of diversity.
  • Supervisory and leadership skills; ability to train and instruct employees; ability to organize, prioritize, and assign duties.
  • Current Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate.
Work Environment

This position requires standing, walking, use of fingers and hands, reaching, lifting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, hearing, speaking, and seeing. It also requires the ability to stand for an extended period of time without a significant rest period and the ability to lift 25 lbs. frequently.
