**ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY**:
USF Research & Innovation (USFRI) is charged with the central administration and oversight of the USF research enterprise. USFRI promotes USF research; stimulates economic development; provides services and assistance to facilitate faculty, staff, and student research efforts; ensures compliance with research-related laws, regulations, and policies of federal, state, sponsoring agencies and organizations, and the university; and provides for the protection and promotion of intellectual property generated by USF System employees. USFRI consists of several departments including: the Office of the Vice President, which includes Research Operations, Outreach and Engagement, the Research Development Institute and the USF Faculty Honors Program; Sponsored Research (which includes Research Financial Management); Comparative Medicine; Research Integrity & Compliance; Technology Transfer Office/Patents and Licensing and the USF Research Foundation, Inc., which includes USF CONNECT, Economic Development, and the USF Research Park.

The Assistant Director Research Development will capture and communicate funding opportunities to targeted audiences based on research aspirations and expertise, provide connect with the community through virtual office hours, workshops that launch new funding opportunities, and host events with federal sponsors. The Assistant Director will work closely with the USFRI Communications and Marketing team to raise the visibility of expertise across the research enterprise. In addition to content development for the Research Development Institute website and monthly newsletter, the Assistant Director will contribute to writing and editing non-scientific elements of highly competitive proposals, e.g., letters of support, data management plans, description of facilities and research infrastructure.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Raise the visibility of opportunities and provide concierge support to faculty teams, capture and communicate funding opportunities to targeted audiences based on research aspirations and expertise.

Launch high-value funding opportunities, connect with the research community through virtual office hours, lead grant workshops, and host events with federal sponsors. Work with faculty groups on brainstorming/ideation sessions, coaching, and co-creating activities that advance the research mission.

In collaboration with Communications and Marketing, raise the visibility of competitive intelligence across interdisciplinary research areas; infrastructure and facilities, and strategic partners. Contribute to the Research Development Institute website of online resources, strengthen social media presence, and lead the RDI Newsletter initiative.

Professionally articulate the strengths and impact of research, position proposals for success at every stage (LOI, Preliminary and Invited Proposal), contribute to writing and editing non-scientific elements of highly competitive proposals, e.g., letters of support, data management plans, description of facilities and research infrastructure.

**POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**:
**MINIMUM**:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt experience. Positions with supervisory duties require a minimum of four years related exempt experience, with at least two of those years including supervisory experience.

**PREFERRED**:
Strong writing, presentation, coaching, and mentoring skills. Experienced with a broad spectrum of sponsor types. Certificate in Research Administration (CRA) or Graduate Certificate in Grants Administration.

**SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING**:
High degree of critical thinking skills, creative problem solver, diplomacy, technical writing, expert-level understanding of the research administration body of knowledge.
