**About Madison School & Community Recreation**

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) serves a community of 230,000 in Madison, WI, with 75 full time and 2200+ seasonal staff members. MSCR offers a full range of recreation programs and services utilizing school facilities, parks, and other community facilities. Programs include fitness, aquatics, adult and youth sports, after school child care, summer camps, outdoor adventure, middle school youth resource centers, arts, and sports camps. MSCR is a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District, providing public recreation and after school programming for the Madison community since 1926.

**Hours**

Varies Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6:30pm, with occasional evening and weekend work during school year. Summer hours may differ depending on placement.

**Purpose of Position**

The purpose of this position is to develop, promote, coordinate and supervise a variety of activities for middle school students in a safe and enriching environment. Serve as a youth program site director during summer.

**Primary Functions/Expectations**

The following duties are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
- Develop and implement a variety of out of school time activities for middle school students at assigned school. Activities may be organized to take place before, during school day breaks, afterschool and no school days, with a focus on afterschool hours.
- Activities will include:

- All sports offered as a part of the Middle School Sports program.
- Minimum required Academic Enrichment activities.
- Minimum required Leadership/Identity/Social Emotional Learning Activities
- Requirements may vary from site to site based on school enrollment and funding sources that may include federal Community Learning Center grants, local grants, partnerships and other funding sources.
- Lead MSCR Summer Youth programming. Summer program duties will differ from school year duties. Site location, program type, age group, hours may change during summer months.
- Create a physically and emotionally safe and welcoming program environment for all participants and staff. Promote positive staff student relationships and focus on positive youth development.
- Develop an activity schedule that meets daily and annual requirements for the specific site.
- Recruit club leaders, sport coaches and volunteers from within and outside of school staff. Build positive relationships with school-based staff and promote the values and benefits of offering out of school activities.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff for a variety of out of school programs and activities.
- Develop staff work schedules, assign staff, and oversee daily work. Collect, submit and approve timesheets.
- Conduct daily activity visits to monitor program effectiveness, provide feedback to staff, and assist in problem solving.
