POSITION OVERVIEW
Claremont Graduate University is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and visionary leader with a demonstrated record of elevating the student experience and enhancing an environment of success and belonging. This role serves the interests of a diverse graduate student body, including international students, veterans, and adult learners. The Associate Director of Student Life and International Services joins an engaged team that is committed to serving graduate students through online and in-person modalities and across a broad range of masters degrees and traditional and professional doctorate degrees.
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Life and International Services, the Associate Director of Student Life provides support in the training, collaboration, advising, and supervising of Student Life, Diversity and Leadership registered student organizations and events. The SLDL Office works closely with affinity groups, the IGNITE Mentoring Program, Graduate Student Council, International students, and student Veterans. The Associate Director coordinates student support for international students, particularly regarding the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) through information dissemination and advising on visa compliance matters. The Associate Director and SLDL staff coordinate New International Student and Scholar Orientation (NISSO) in support of student engagement on campus and within the community. This position advances the University mission and strategic plan by recruiting, retaining, and supporting the academic success of Claremont Graduate University students.
The Associate Director provides support to all aspects of developing a strategy, planning and coordinating diverse and inclusive, equity and social justice initiatives in consultation with the Director of Student Life and International Students. The Associate Director teaches best practices and enforces CGU policies and procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Functions- Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for incoming students and assist the Director of Student Life and International Students with current students in maintaining the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and all related certification requirements. Under the guidelines provided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of State (DOS), organize SEVIS data and issue immigration documents and grant immigration benefits to students in F-1 visa status and J-1 visa status.- Support the DSO/PDSO in advising international graduate students and their dependents on maintaining lawful immigration status once in the U.S. through continuous education on regulations, policies, and procedures. Such issues may pertain to work authorization, reinstatements, reduced course load authorizations, change of status, medical leave, Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training and any other issue related to lawful status in the U.S.- Ensure institutional compliance with federal regulations by performing timely and accurate registration and reporting of all F1 and J1 students through SEVIS.- Assist the Director of Student Life and International Students with communication to new and current International Students to include emergency and sickness coverage. Assist the Director of Student Life and International Students with management and enrollment of international and domestic students utilizing the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and International Student Option (ISO) coverage.
