- Under the direction of the assigned administrator; manage the varied operations of the Transportation Department; plan, organize, evaluate and supervise the work of supervisory personnel and subordinate staff.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**:
The following list of duties describes the various types of work that may be performed and the level of technical complexity of the assignment(s), and is not intended to be an all inclusive list.
- Implement approved programs and services; plan, organize and supervise the work of the Transportation section through subordinate supervisors of sub-units which are responsible for crossing guards and transportation.
- Schedule, monitor and supervise the work of staff, selecting, making assignments, setting priorities for and training personnel; develop standards of performance for each position supervised; advise subordinates of performance standards, observe and document performance and prepare periodic and special evaluations of performance.
- Train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; schedule, monitor and prioritize work; recommend employee recognition and discipline; process formal and informal grievances; develop work procedures and practices of the unit.
- Maintain records of payroll-related information of the unit, assuring the proper reporting of time worked and absences; conduct staff meetings.
- Review and update District policies and regulations to comply with changes to federal and State transportation laws, rules and regulations.
- Consult and coordinate with school and District administrative personnel and staff to assure smooth and timely delivery of scheduled services; schedule service requests and identify appropriate solutions to problems.
- Maintain specialized records of shop work orders, materials, labor costs and employee work hours; review and monitor time cards; prepare and submit State and federal alternative fuel tax returns; and generate a variety of repetitive and special reports and correspondence.
- Assure that staff of the Transportation section work in a safe environment, receive safety training and education and use safety equipment and safe work practices appropriate to the work; counsel employees on safety infractions and report serious infractions to superiors; recommend safety training and equipment purchases to superior.
- Review repairs and maintenance for quality and completeness; review work orders and assign required parts, expenses and personnel.
- Receive and respond to driver complaints concerning the operating condition of vehicles and equipment; notify other departments of upcoming repairs and maintenance on District vehicles.
- Obtain quotes for body work and other major repairs; contact manufacturers concerning equipment purchase, quality and pricing; compile information concerning grant money and other funding resources for the purchase of District vehicles, parts and equipment.
- Monitor District vehicle mileage and Department expenditures; calculate fuel taxes as assigned; input information into assigned computer system; register District vehicles with DMV; monitor ground fuel storage tanks for leaks.
- Develop recommendations for new and modified programs, policies, regulations and procedures for approval.
- Prepare estimates of costs; evaluate vendor bids for goods and services; prepare requisitions; administer assigned contracts, monitoring services provided to the District under contractual agreement.
- Advise subordinate supervisors regarding supervisory practices and serve as reviewer of evaluations.
- Prepare budget requests and administer approved budget.
- Address safety and parental complaints as it pertains school bus safety and street crossing guards
- Train, schedule, and supervise assigned routes, provide technical support including the maneuvering, backing, basic operational skills for bus drivers, and storage of sound, lighting, and ushering support.
- Maintain state regulated documentation for school bus drivers, drug testing requirements, Prep Facility for CHP terminal inspection that includes and maintenance files,T01 Driver hours, Payroll records inspection.
- Supervise, coordinate, and participate in instructing drivers for license renewal, and sets up California Highway Patrol tests.
- Drive a school bus over assigned routes in emergency situations.
