Job Title: Transportation Worker I

Join the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation as a Transportation Worker I and contribute to the maintenance and construction of roads and highways.

Job Summary:

This is a permanent, full-time position that requires the operation of standard hand tools, power equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate power tools such as chainsaw, weed eater, skill saw, drill, compactor, jackhammer, etc.
  • Use small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, post hole diggers, hammer, screwdriver, torch, etc.
  • Perform manual labor tasks such as vegetation control, debris removal, pushing snow, and operating heavy equipment.
  • Assist with carpentry, welding, steel fabrication, or concrete work activities.
Requirements:
  • High school education or General Educational Development Diploma.
  • Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the hire date.
