**Description**

The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources. This position is with our Office of Communications area of the agency.

Performs highly advanced (senior-level) informational and communications work. Work involves overseeing the research, writing, editing, and production of content and materials for release to various communications media (news, print, digital, and/or social media) and for use by the agency, the public, and other agencies. May supervise the work of others. Works under mínimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

**Essential Job Elements**:

- Prepares and implements agency social media posts and overall strategy on various platforms.
- Creates, analyzes and distributes reports to communications team on social media activity for its effectiveness.
- Prepares and distributes agency publications, informational releases, and educational scripts.
- Researches sources and ensures the completeness and accuracy of printed and online materials.
- Coordinates the illustrative, photographic, or audiovisual content of agency press material online.
- Plans and executes public information programs, conferences, seminars, workshops, and public hearings.
- Consults with and advises agency leaders and staff about public information options and programs.
- Aides in production of press conferences and/or agency meetings.
- Identifies opportunities to engage outside audiences in order to stimulate interest in various agency programs.
- Monitors online activity across departments and geographical areas to ensure anyone using the agency's online tools are following established guidelines and best-practice rules.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Qualifications**:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in journalism, public relations, advertising, communications, or a related field. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in journalism, social media management, public relations, public information, communications, or media relations work.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience managing social media with a government entity.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Knowledge of agency functions, policies, and procedures; news and communication media; various social media platforms; editing and preparing informational material; design principles; and publishing and broadcast industries.
- Skill in editorial and design practices, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
- Ability to research and prepare information, to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency, to compose usable content for websites and social media, to prepare copy and scripts, to design broad communications plans and materials, and to communicate effectively.
