**Harm Reduction Coordinator**

**Organizational Summary**:
Us Helping Us is a mission-driven nonprofit known for its work at the intersection of culturally appropriate service delivery, community education and mobilization, advocacy, and research. For the past 30 years, Us Helping Us has provided innovative services, programs, and activities to improve the health and wellbeing of racial, sexual, and gender minorities, especially Black sexual minority men, people with HIV (PWH), and persons with substance use and mental health disorders. As it exists today, Us Helping Us offers a variety of clinical, behavioral, and social services in a trusting, affirming, and inclusive environment. Importantly, Us Helping Us is multi-service organization that is client-centric and provides coordinated, compassionate services that assist clients in realizing their full potential. We are currently hiring a **Harm Reduction Coordinator** and are looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate and independently motivated person with the applicable skills to fill this position.

**Position Summary**:
The **Harm Reduction Coordinator **will coordinate our harm reduction program and related activities, including working closely with individuals who are Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-Conforming, Non-Binary, or other sexual and gender minority status. Specifically, the **Harm Reduction Coordinator** will implement the syringe services program (SSP), including the distribution of naloxone and cleanworks, with a focus on reaching emerging injection drug using populations, such as young Black MSM and transgender women, aged 13-34 years, as well as transgender women and men who inject hormones.

Reporting to the **Community-Based Services Manager**, the **Harm Reduction Coordinator** will have the following responsibilities:

- Implement organizational SSP activities, outreach, and services in accordance with the mission and vision of the organization and at the direction of the Community Services Engagement Manager.
- Develop educational and promotional material (palm cards) to include in harm reduction kits and during outreach activities.
- Identify and recruit new clients for SSP activities, including syringe exchange services.
- Conduct STI screenings, including HIV, HCV and tuberculosis.
- Conduct PrEP/nPEP referrals and navigation services with high-risk clients.
- Supervise Secondary Exchangers and Peer Support Workers.
- Meet regularly with programmatic, clinical/primary care staff to discuss status of objectives/activities, review evaluation data and client satisfaction surveys, and discuss challenges and opportunities for improvement and expansion.
- Meet with programmatic, clinical/primary care staff to make communication easy and transparent regarding issues and decisions with programs, activities and services.
- Implement recommended changes to ensure project goals are achieved, if applicable.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA)**:

- Excellent interpersonal, team building and problem solving skills. Team player attitude, focus on client-centeredness, and excellent customer service skills are key.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as organizational and stress management skills.
- Passion for the mission of the organization, including a strong commitment to working to improve the health and quality of life of racial, sexual and gender minorities and communities, people living with HIV/AIDS, and persons with mental health disorders.
- Experience working with LGBTQ individuals and racial minorities and respects cultural and religious practices of patients.
- Familiarity with SSP programs and related activities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, self-motivated, and enthusiastic.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and provide caring and non-judgmental client-centered services.
- Bilingual English/Spanish and/or other languages strongly preferred.

**Experience and Education**:

- A bachelor’s degree in a science, health-related field or another applicable discipline; or an associate’s degree in a science or health-related field and at least one (1) year of related work experience; or a high school diploma/GED and three (3) years of related work experience
- Experience with the injection-using community.
- Work experience with adults and/or youth, particularly individuals who are Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-Conforming, Non-Binary, or other sexual minority in a community-based setting is preferred.
- Have a valid driver's license with no DUI or major moving violation in the past 5 years. Regular travel within the greater Washington, DC area is required for this position.
- Experience and knowledge of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (e.g., Hepatitis) and chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).

**Specifications**:

- Salary range is $55,000 - $65,000 plus a generous benefits package
