**_Characteristics of the Position_**

**General Overview**

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Sheriff’s Community Engagement, advises, directs, coordinates, and provides management and operational support. Makes recommendations regarding improving operations and public services. Consults with and advises the Executive Director of Sheriff’s Community Engagement of development, implementation, and promulgation of policies and practices affecting all Sheriff’s Office employees. Manages special projects for the Office of Sheriff’s Community Engagement.

**Key Responsibilities and Duties**

Build positive and lasting relationships with government partners and community leaders.

Support organization’s involvement with the communities in which the organization operates to address social, economic, and environmental challenges and promote the organization’s image in a positive way.

Support all related community relations needs for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Represent Cook County Sheriff’s Office at key public facing events.

Act as liaison to other Sheriff’s Office Departments.

Act as liaison to outside agencies and departments.

Assist in developing a community engagement plan that will be shared with the Sheriff’s Office leadership.

Regularly conduct outreach and increase community engagement by offering community members access to information and more opportunities.

Engage community organizations, community leaders, youth, and other stakeholders in the reform process by developing opportunities for dialogue.

Implement online and offline strategies to collect feedback, recommendations, and input from community members.

Serve as liaison to Cook County residents, service organizations, community stakeholders, public officials, clergy, and other parties to identify issues and implement solutions.

Provide evaluation, financial planning, and management overview of varies projects that will impact the improvement and streamlining process within the Sheriff’s Office.

Provide administrative and office management support including but not limited to; professional report production, correspondence and letters, transcription and schedule planning and assigned research as requested.

Work to engage the public, community stakeholders, and elected officials to implement the Sheriff’s policy objectives.

Prepare, edit, and review letters and memoranda for final print, distribution, and filing ensuring conformance with agency correspondence. Organize and maintain records in accordance with the organizational records retention schedules. Create spreadsheets and develop and maintain databases as needed for tracking purposes.

Provide information and assistance to the public on routine procedures; advises individuals of requirements, regulations and/or policies for obtaining resolution of inquiry.

Review clerical records to ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness.

Provide proactive feedback in staff meetings or other forums to executive staff, regarding departmental operations and provide recommended changes to facilitate an efficient operating unit.

Set and meet goals. Accountable for project deadlines and successful completion of projects.

Prepare detailed reports and presentations regularly as assigned by the supervisor.

Provide exceptional customer service, also responsible for greeting and directing employees, visitors and vendors.

In coordination with the other staff, research, draft, discuss, implement, and enforce the Sheriff’s policies and procedures.

Develop and maintain confidential reports as requested by the Director of Sheriff’s Community Engagement.

Drive awareness and engagement of community-based organizations to ensure sustained collaboration to reach new partners and support existing ones.

Perform additional duties as directed by the Executive Director of Sheriff’s Community Engagement.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

Skill in planning, developing and completing complex assignments with mínimal direction.

Provide accurate judgment in making decisions, reorganizing established precedents, and problem-solving.

Knowledge of or ability to quickly and effectively grasp and utilize the policies, protocols, systems, procedures, and technical vernacular of the Department, as they are applicable to assigned duties and responsibilities.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and other software
