This position is located in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Executive Office of the Chief of Police. The incumbent serves as a key advisor and strategic partner to the Chief of Police, assisting in the overall management and administration of the Executive Office of the Chief of Police.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

- Provides administrative oversight of the activities of the Chief of Police to include, management of the Chief’s calendar, scheduling of appointments, coordination of meetings, preparation of correspondence, reports, and presentations, and responding to incoming telephone calls on the behalf of the Chief and performs the necessary follow up and communicates with callers on sensitive and/or confidential issues received.
- Develops and prepares statements, materials, reports, charts, spreadsheets, and other written material relating to the day-to-day operations and functions of the office.
- Assists the Executive Office of the Chief of Police in exercising executive control and direction over the agency including the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and organizational goals; ensures the alignment of departmental activities with strategic objectives; Conducts comprehensive research and special projects and assures implementation of programs developed and initiated by the Chief.
- Serves as a liaison between the Chief and departmental staff, external stakeholders, and community members; fosters collaboration and communication across departmental divisions and units and facilitates coordination with other city departments, government agencies, and community organizations.
- Creates and maintains cross-bureau relationships to achieve mission success and serves as strategic and trusted advisor to the leadership, particularly for the Chief of Police.
- Provides guidance and support to the Chief during critical incidents and emergency situations; assists with the coordination of responses to crises, including media inquiries, public statements, and interagency communication and assist in developing and implementing contingency plans to address potential risks and threats.
- Oversees, evaluates, monitors and tracks routine and special staff assignments; ensures staff compliance with report due dates and deliverables.
- Ensures compliance with agency and higher-level policies and inclusion of all relevant information required for reaching decisions that have broad and significant impact on the department; and recognizes and acts on matters within the boundaries of polices and processes previously outlined by the Chief.
- Performs a full range of managerial functions to include: assign, direct, and review the work of subordinate staff; administer leave and attendance; evaluate staff performance; recommend hiring, promotions, status changes, awards, disciplinary actions, and terminations; plan, schedule, and coordinate work operations to achieve optimal combination of employees and assignments including resource realignment and/or restructuring plans; address issues or problems related to work operations; negotiate and troubleshoot employee concerns, grievances, and other matters involved in the daily administration of labor-management concerns; provide coaching; develops performance metrics and standard operating procedures; address disciplinary problems; and provide governance over staff development and training plans.
- Represents the Chief in an official capacity as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
