The Chief of Staff is a strategic leader who can drive, support and implement a vision, as well as outline and execute the essential deliverables and goals of the President & CEO. The Chief of Staff provides a broad range of strategic initiatives, executive-level management, leadership and operations support to the President and CEO. The position’s primary responsibilities include oversight of the Authority’s strategic planning process and execution and implementation of cross-division policy directives and programs, while directing the day-to-day operations of the President & CEO’s Office, including; scheduling, correspondence fiscal accountability and supervision of Authority staff; and managing the statutory and legislative obligations of the Authority and of the Board.

The incumbent will serve as the primary liaison to the Executive Staff and VEEP Special Operations Team, industry groups, internal/external stakeholders and agencies within the District of Columbia Government to ensure the successful execution of Authority objectives. The position requires a high degree of flexibility and responsiveness to the immediate business needs of the organization. The Chief of Staff is expected to manage the President & CEO’s priorities, including the design and execution of key performance indicators and all operation and capital expenditure obligations.
- RESPONSIBILITIES: Prioritizes the President/CEO’s daily action plan while maintaining an Authority-wide perspective on operational components and customer/stakeholder impacts.
- Consistently assess work productivity and strategic plan to recommend changes and implement program elements that meet and exceed the Authority’s operational objectives.
- Remain knowledgeable and in the forefront of industry best practices in Tourism, Hospitality, Sports, Entertainment and Creative Services.
- Supports internal/external communications to achieve consistent executive-level messaging to Authority staff, partners, customers and community.
- Directs leadership and administrative support for the President/CEO, including day to day operations and special projects.
- Expeditiously resolves customer, industry or employee issues on behalf of the President/CEO and consistently assess any obstacles or opportunities related to International programming activations and destination-driven projects.
- Assists the office of the General Counsel in maintaining the Authority’s compliance with legislatively mandated reporting requirements, as necessary.
- Works closely with the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on operational and financial matters.
- Identify and implement Best Practices of the Economic Vitality of the city.
- Serve as a representative of the President and CEO as needed.
- QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Communications or a closely related field; AND
- Ten (10) years experience in operational, Finance, Governmental, Tourism and Hospitality industry, preferred; OR any equivalent combination of education or experience.
- Chief of Staff preferred.
- Extensive experience in senior leadership in the area of Convention/Management, Entertainment/Sports, Creative Services and/or Government Relations, preferred.
