**General Porter**

Reports to: Facilities Manager

**Job purpose**

Beatrice Mayes Institute is seeking a General Porter to complete the following duties and responsibilities:

- Assist with setting up and breaking down equipment for events and meetings.
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment as needed.
- Assist with deliveries and distribute supplies throughout the facility.
- Ensure assigned maintenance requests are completed in a timely manner.
- Assist in ensuring the safety of the facility and report hazards.
- Operate facility vehicles to complete transport assignments.
- Assist with food preparation and storage for daily meals.
- Assists in receiving food deliveries and waste management.
- Provide assistance to students, staff and visitors as needed.
- Attend meetings, in-service training and workshops as assigned.
- Performs other related work as assigned.

Other attributes needed and desired for this role are:

- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and some experience in facilities and kitchen maintenance or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and safe driving record.
- Must be able to pass a Background Check working for a school.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Good communication and Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Ability to work independently, a self-starter and as a part of a team.

Knowledge of sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance is a plus.

**Working conditions**

Indoor/Outdoor environment. Subject to changing temperatures (cold/hot) based on the assigned duties.

**Physical requirements**
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment and may include outdoor tasks.
- Ability to carry and/or lift-up to 50 pounds.
- The position may require standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and bending for extended periods.
- The role may include early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends.

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- 1-hour lunch break
- Occasional weekends and after hours
