**Maple Bluff Country Club**, which today stands as one of the oldest and finest golf clubs in Wisconsin, has a rich history that dates back to 1899. In December of that year, several golf enthusiasts officially incorporated “Maple Bluff Golf Club,” rented a six-acre pasture on the Halle Steensland farm and laid out a five hole course.

The idea of a club gained fans so rapidly that in 1900, 20 people agreed to advance the necessary funds to purchase, for $5,000, a 58 acre tract of land from S.H. Marshall at Maple Bluff and build a clubhouse.

The improvement of the grounds was begun in the spring of 1900 and the building of the clubhouse in the autumn of that year, and both were ready for use in May 1901. The clubhouse, with accessories, cost about $2,500. The wood frame structure measured 50 by 70 feet and contained two locker rooms, a large assembly hall and a small kitchen. The clubhouse included a veranda extending around three sides so members and friends could either watch golfers or the view of Madison across the lake.

In 1901, MBCC was one of nine Wisconsin golf clubs to form the Wisconsin State Golf Association. The WSGA’s first state amateur golf tournament was held that year at Bluemound Country Club. In 1907, Maple Bluff was host to the Men’s State Amateur and it was won by Mr. Frank Jacobs, one of the original Maple Bluff members.

The club continued to grow and prosper and in 1916, Maple Bluff was enlarged to a full-fledged 18-hole course.

Many changes and improvements have been made over the years but the basic layout of the course has remained unchanged since 1967. In 2002, the golf course architectural firm of Arthur Hills/Steven Forrest made changes, which slightly raised the slope and course ratings, and improved playability. Major renovations have been made over the years to the clubhouse, the most recent being in 2002, when improvements were made to the men’ and women’s locker rooms and the formal and informal dining areas.

Today, our 18 hole, 6,398-yard (par 71) course is a mature, beautifully manicured and challenging layout and is considered one of the finest and most beautifully maintained golf courses in the Midwest.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Directs and oversees all accounting functions, information technology and some human resource responsibilities; includes the development and maintenance of policies to control and coordinate accounting including payroll, treasury management, membership billing, risk management, IT, budgets, taxes and relative records.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Be familiar and follow Club’s policies and procedures that are relevant to your specific position or as a general

employee of the Club, as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Training Manuals, and Written Standards of

Performance
- Monthly financial statement preparation including capital spending tracking, cash flow statement and variance reporting, prepares monthly trial balance and bank reconciliations, advises management team members of their budget variances in a timely manner to allow time for corrective action
- Lead annual budget preparation with Club Manager and department heads
- Ensures that all business licenses, liquor licenses, certificates of operation, and other licenses/permits are current and properly maintained.
- Bi-weekly payroll processing
- Coordinate benefit programs including health, dental, life, 401k
- Inventory review and controls with department heads; occasional inventory participation **Internal control evaluation**
- recommend changes necessary to improve operational and financial performance
- Works closely with Finance Committee on reporting overall monthly financial condition of the Club, cash flow forecasts, etc.
- Audit preparation and verification, works with external auditors to assure procedures are consistent with club policies and to maintain proper controls
- Maintains filing deadlines for all taxing authorities, including property taxes, and ensures tax returns are filed accordingly
- Verifies that all insurance records for club property are properly maintained.
- Assists in educating department heads on the financial aspects of their departments including budget comprehension, forecasting and variance controls as needed
- Attends Finance Committee meetings and other meetings as required
- Monitors collection of past due accounts, advises Club Manager and Board of Directors when difficult situations arise
- Performs periodic forecasts and ad hoc reporting as needed
- Monitor cash flow; in charge of procedures governing bank deposits, cash banks, and policies pertaining to payroll
- Supervises the programming of Club’s Jonas accounting software and related IT software, as well as service requirements; also troubleshoots phone, internet and POS systems
