We are seeking an Executive Director for Financial Planning & Analysis; AVP, JHM who will set the direction for financial planning and utilization of School resources. Primarily responsible for financial outcomes, this individual owns the management processes and goals and metrics that lead to the school's financial performance.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Accountable for
  • SOM all-funds operational and capital budget planning, including variance to plan, forecasting (short-long term), long-range strategic financial planning, space plans/allocations, Financial acumen and proficiency at all levels of the School (through training and development), Departmental financial performance, Overall School progress toward financial goals; deputy to the CFO for all School financial functions (including deputy DBO).


Administers
  • All processes (monthly, quarterly, annually) related to the development, management, and variance to plan of the operating and capital budgets, including forecasting and financial planning models, position control processes, and impact of faculty compensation plans on budget and long-rang plans.
  • Financial metrics to monitor performance against short and long-term plans.
  • Curated policy and procedure warehouse, financial training and development efforts.
  • Financial viability of new initiatives or expansions (clinical, research, and education).
  • Course correction for poor financial performance; What-if scenario planning; Space allocations and usage against performance metrics and impact on financial planning, Recommendations / commitments / investments to achieve strategic plan.


Manages
  • Directs Team of 18.
  • Sets individual and team goals.
  • Manages performance of direct reports and holds managers accountable for teams performance. Also, manages DOF's with reporting lines to Central Finance.
  • Future DOF reporting relationships are possible.


Determines
  • SOM Budget, Departmental annual and capital budgets, financial impact of faculty compensation plans at both the department and School level, position exceptions, space assignments.
  • Metrics for monitoring performance and service levels.
  • Content direction of policy / procedure warehouse.


Reviews
  • SOM budgets for clinical, research, and education.
  • Variance reporting for SOM and its entities in advance of presentation to leadership.
  • Strategic financial plans for new initiatives.
  • New tools for usage by departments to support financial activities.
  • Resource allocation proposals from SOM departments.


Advises
  • Consults with JHHS / JHM Finance on budget, variance to plan, long-range financial planning, departmental new or expanded service lines / initiatives.
  • JHU Budget team on planning or meeting budget targets for the University, Departments on all financial activities and forecasting, consults with SOM CF colleagues on variance reporting, report building, financial operations to understand actual activities compare to budget.
  • Consults with Internal Audit and JHU HR in establishing T&D and policy warehouse.


Collaborates
  • Engages all departments through regular and meaningful engagement, SOM Department Directors, SOM Vice/ Associate Deans, JHM Clinical Practice Association, Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians, JHU Controller, Divisional Business Officer (DBO) colleagues throughout JHU.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field plus 10+ years if progressively responsible financial and business operations experience, preferably in a large and complex organization.
  • Proven communication, organizational, and analytic skills in a complex organization.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically and possess a leadership style that works in collaboration with a wide variety of constituencies, building good working relationships using excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, tact and persuasion.
  • Excellent management skills particularly in facilitation, team building, and coordination. Advanced financial expertise in accounting, budget planning, and financial forecasting.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership, planning, change management and process improvement skills.
  • Strong supervisory abilities and proven experience in managing and developing high performance teams within a highly change oriented culture
  • Ability to analyze data for budgeting, operations, auditing, accounts receivable, and reserve analysis
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or MHA with 10 years in an academic medical center environment.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Physician practice or academic department management or directorship.



Physical Requirements
  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
  • Occasionally lifting, carrying objects weighing 10lbs. or less. Occasionally pushing, pulling objects weighing 30lbs. or less.

Starting Salary Range: Min $225,000 - Max $265,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
