Overview:

 

The Medical Director Lab Services will be the physician leader responsible for driving clinical lab initiatives of the Mercy laboratory service line and its related programs and services. The focus and expected outcome of these activities is to deliver the highest quality of care and service in the most cost-effective manner.  Responsible for planning and implementing strategies and programs to achieve the institutions commitment to excel in the provision lab services to drive clinical excellence.

The VP-Medical Director Lab Services is responsible for inspiring excellence and leading change, which includes but is not limited to: establishing and implementing clinical and operating lab standards; developing and implementing programs for patient care; ensuring ongoing provider education; developing provider relationships; providing professional consultations to local Medical Staff Executive Committees, CMO’s, and other physician leaders.

Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Qualifications:

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education: M.D. or D.O.
  • Licensure: Current and clear medical licensure in State of Missouri, Arkansas or Oklahoma.
  • Experience: The ideal candidate for this position will be a physician with solid laboratory clinical training and experience, management experience and a demonstrated commitment to excellence and quality patient care. 
  • Certification/Registration: A Medical Degree and board certification as Surgical or Clinical Pathologist.
  • Other Skills and Knowledge: Remains abreast of internal and external factors impacting the healthcare environment through continuing education.  Candidates should be articulate, skilled, and comfortable in front of groups, assertive and embrace a team management-consensus approach to decision making, while being able to make independent decisions when appropriate.  Data driven with strong influencing skills and acumen to work with physicians, leaders, and peers to lead change and inspire excellence and consumer focused.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: A demonstrated commitment to management such as an advanced management degree, continuing management education is desirable.
  • Experience: At least five years of practice experience as a laboratory medical director and administrative background in an integrated healthcare system.
