In the Software Engineering Product Owner role, you will be the product owner in an agile environment. We are at the forefront of aerospace and defense technology. Our Satellite Ground Systems Team plays a pivotal role in ensuring communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through cutting-edge satellite systems. We invite you to be part of a team that pushes the boundaries of what's possible. Due to the security clearance requirement, this is an onsite position in our State College, PA or Dulles, VA office.

What you will do:

The Principal Software Product Owner Engineer will have full ownership of the agile product for our Satellite Ground Systems. This role involves close collaboration with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high-performance software solutions. Other responsibilities to anticipate may include:

  • Product Ownership: Act as the primary point of contact for the team, responsible for defining, prioritizing, and executing task plans
  • Requirements Gathering: Elicit and document product requirements to provide a clear understanding for development teams
  • Program Increment (PI) Planning: Participate in PI planning, including prioritization of tasks, sprint planning, and coordination of cross-team dependencies in a scaled Agile framework environment.
  • Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of their immediate supervisor.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a Java Software background.
  • Experience with Agile metrics such as backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition.
  • Ability to lead a geographically dispersed team of software engineers.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Scrum Master and/or Product Owner training.
  • Understanding of EVMS.
  • Active and transferable TS/SCI U.S. government issued security clearance prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • Eight (8) years of experience in object-oriented software design and development using Java in a Linux environment and using unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit)
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment using Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Jenkins, Jira, Git, Bitbucket and Gradle.
  • Experience in an Agile/DevOps environment.
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Perl and Python.
  • Experience working in an Agile Development environment using Scrum and Kanban.
  • Raytheon PM Leve 6 certification
  • Earned Value Certification
  • Security+ certification
  • Experience using the Atlassian tool suite.
  • Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting.
  • Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
