As Rhode Island’s largest health system and private employer, Lifespan is dedicated to improving the health of the people within our communities. We are seeking a *Sr. Compliance and Privacy Specialist *to join our Internal Auditing department in Providence, RI. *This is a hybrid position with two remote days per week. *In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert regarding the HIPAA Privacy Act by maintaining the HIPAA Privacy Log, performing security breach analyses and reviewing and revising privacy policies as needed. You will be relied on to plan, direct and perform investigations and appraise compliance with general and specific compliance policies and federal and state rules and regulations. You will also review physician consulting contract questions in relation to Stark and Anti-Kickback regulations and Lifespan policies and maintain the Compliance Program’s confidential employee reporting telephone line.

*Responsibilities:*
* Perform and direct compliance audits in accordance with auditing standards, including tests of accounting, billing and medical records and other investigational procedures as deemed necessary
* Investigate, summarize and advise Compliance leadership on substantive ‘hotline’ complaints and assist in maintaining Lifespan’s Privacy Program by ensuring that sufficient procedural guidance and training has been developed
* Assist the Director and Vice President in performing required breach analysis and federally mandated reporting, and serve as the Privacy Resource Person to employees in their absence
* Cooperate with regulatory, third party and external auditors and consultants, review results of test checks and other findings to identify areas requiring further examination and collaborate as needed to discuss findings of special problems
* Assist in developing, implementing and interpreting privacy policies and procedures and guiding staff in consistent application of materials
* Perform weekly onsite rounding at designated hospitals, physician practices and other Lifespan entities to provide scheduled training and participate in Environment of Care Rounding
* Develop agenda and educational materials for quarterly Compliance Update meetings at all Lifespan assigned Hospital and Physician groups geared to leadership (President, CMO, CNO, HIM)
* Research federal and state laws, inspect financial records, observe work processes and procedures, make inquiries and confirm application of controls and policies to afford reasonable basis for objective opinions regarding compliance with the laws

*Qualifications*:
* Bachelor’s degree in health care management, accounting, finance, business administration or related field; Advanced degree preferred
* Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Certification in Healthcare Privacy (CHPC) from the Healthcare Compliance Association preferred
* 3+ years of Corporate Compliance/Privacy Program/Health Information/Investigatory Services experience, or at least 3 years of experience in patient financial services, legal or similar area
* Knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy Act and the HIPAA Security Act; Specific knowledge of Compliance federal and state laws pertinent to health care systems preferred
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, problem solving skills, group presentation skills, project management skills and personal computer application skills
